Following on from the success of the 1 Series 5-door hatchback, BMW introduced the 1 Series 3 door sports hatch in 2007. The upgraded model came with new changes including minor headlight and taillight revisions, new front/rear bumpers and minor revisions to the interior. Since then, and despite strong competition from rivals such as the Audi A3 3-door, Mercedes B Class 20and Alfa Romeo 147, the BMW 1 Series 3-door has established itself as one of the most desirable small sports cars to own.
Style, indivduality and ground-breaking technology all come together in the BMW 1 Series 3 door. The powerful and athletic front design with prominent do u ble-round headlights and characteristic BMW double kidney both combine to integrate both versatility and sportiness. And the 3-door model is as distinctive on the inside as it is on the outside. Voice controls that allow you to operate functions such as the entertainment, telephone or navigation system, USB/audio interface, BMW’s ‘comfort access’ and two sub woofers under the front seats, all add to the immense driving pleasure you get when you’re behind the wheel.
There’s a choice of three powerful engines - the four-cylinder petrol engine, the six-cylinder petrol engine and the four-cylinder direct-injection diesel engine. The 120i model with manual transmission accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 7.7 seconds and the BMW 118i takes just one second longer. Both engines are equipped with VALVETRONIC, the fully variable valve timing system, which allows for higher air intake to increase performance even at reduced levels of fuel consumption. The four-cylinder direct-injection diesel engine in the new BMW 120d model produces a remarkable 350 Nm of torque from just 2,000 rpm.
Trim levels include the standard 1 Series, ES, SE, Sport and M Sport. M Sport trim includes M Sports suspension, air conditioning, storage compartments in the front and rear door panels and sun visors with vanity mirrors and ticket pocket. Models include the 116i/d, 118i/d, 120i/d, 130i and the 123d.
