Launched in 1999, the BMW X5 is a mid-size crossover SUV and was the first SUV to be produced by the German manufacturer. BMW described it as a Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV) rather than an SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle), to emphasize its on-road ability despite its size. Despite strong competition from rivals such as the Peugeot 4007, Kia Sorento and Mitsubishi Outlander, the X5 features all-wheel drive, a powerful V8 engine and a range of luxury BMW options that make it stand out from the crowd.
The BMW X5 is powerful, stylish and versatile. Its long wheelbase, short overhangs and powerful contours express its elegantly sporting nature, whilst its optional panoramic sunroof creates a unique sense of freedom and sophistication. Inside, fine woods, carefully selected leathers and understated metal trims create an atmosphere of refined luxury. Rear-cabin DVD system, six audio speakers and subwoofers and BMW’s ‘Head-up Display’ also all add to the unique driving pleasure. And the versatility of the interior can be further increased by opting for the third row of seats, which when not in use, can be folded into the floor so they do not affect the load space in the rear.
The eight-cylinder petrol engine in the BMW X5 4.8i delivers up to 355hp (261 kW), and maximum torque of 475 Nm at 3,400 rpm to propel the vehicle from 0 to 62 in just 6.5 seconds. Despite this massive power, fuel consumption has been reduced to 22.6 mpg and CO2 emissions have also been decreased to 299 g/km. Adapted Drive, Active Steering and BMW’s xDrive also all add to X5’s power and handling.
Trim levels include the SE and M sport. The M Sport trim includes sports suspension, front sports seats, Nevada leather upholstery and the M Aerodynamic package.
