The 5 series is fantastic especially the 3 litre turbo diesel. Its a fantastic motorway car it eats the millage and its excellent on fuel. Around town it manages around 35mpg and on the motorway 48mpg and thats when moving pretty swiftly. It rides extremely smooth I have yet to drive another car that rides as smooth. Overall a great car.
Cruise control is excellent, DVD screens tiptronic gearbox and the best feature for me is the 3 litre turbo diesel engine - its fantastic the way it delivers. The power is instant one of the fastest cars I have ever driven. Hats of to BMW its fantastic.
Rear leg room could be better other rivals like the Mercedes E Class does have better leg room and the back seats dont fold down at all real disappointment. That all that could be improved the suggested improvements are very critical.

Impeccable road holding and driving manners, the handling is superb. You wont feel that you are driving a 1.5 ton beast when you are behind the wheel of a 5 Series. It handles like a much smaller car, yet wafts away 5 adults in first class comfort. Passengers can relax in the hushed atmosphere inside the car, very little engine or road noise comes inside the car. Not even any bad smell from the outside. The climate control is so advanced that in addition to filtering and temperature regulating inside the car, it has sensors for obnoxious gases and if any such gas is detected it automatically goes into recirculate mode!
Safety is superb. Airbags galore, ABS, EBD, CBC, DSC... the amount of electronic trickery which helps you prevent an accident is amazing! Mind you, never think of buying a car without ABS, the amount of safety it adds while you are braking is great, I think ABS should be standard on all cars.
The goodies doesnt stop, parking sensors, auto-dimming rear view mirrors, electric seats with driver memory, steering wheel mounted controls for stereo, cruise control. I love the ambience lighting. When you drive in the night, there is a warm orange glow inside the car, which is just enough for you to locate your gadgets like your moblie phone, and the map reading lights are brilliant too, passengers can switch it on to read without dazzling the driver, it just shows the attention to detail in this car.
Problems so far: The air con stopped working on a warm day once, which the dealer rectified in 3 days, change of a condensor, following which the car hasnt given me any trouble so far. This is a known common fault with BMW 5 Series.

Brilliant car with leather seats and walnut dash finish. Tinted windows are an additonal option, but are a must in my opinion, as they set the car aside from the average vehicle on the road. Heated seats do help and upgrading the stereo to allow use with an Ipod without Itrip is recommended.
Leather seats, power steering, electric windows and smooth ride. Also the big boot, for storing golf clubs, luggage or random things.
Possibly make heated seats as a standard and also introduce ipod compatibility without the need for a cassette adaptor.

What a beautiful car to drive. It feels safe, strong but elegant. Everything is thought of and you do pay for what you get. Luxury, comfort and security. This is a car to suit all ages and needs no selling by me. The cd quality is excellent and so is the built in sat nav.
The boot! Having a mobile home in Sussex means I need to transport lots of stuff and this is ideal.
Better grip in icy conditions. Several people have commented on how poor the car is to drive in snowy conditions, this made me wary of driving during the hard winter we have had.
