My love on road

Review by Mohan Kumar on 23/7/2011

1.6T EcoBoost Edge ST/SP

Review

If you want to have an amazing and an indulging experience on road then this is the car you need to drive. A very spacious and an elegant looking beauty. Glides down the road graciously. Handles well on turns and it is most suitable for a medium sized family car. It quite a reliable car with amazing interiors. Very comfortable interiors with spacious seats. It has always been my dream car. The exteriors of the car are exquisite with the tail lamps being something that has to be highlighted. The boot space is big with ample amount of space to stuff your things. Its been 3 years now that I have this car and it has not let me down. This model is one of few brilliant models that Ford have manufactured along with the focus and others. The paint on the car has a metallic finish to it and has been coated with scratch resistant paint. The stock speakers which comes along with the car is quite acceptable but for a better quality sound experience I have installed pioneer speakers to it.The miles per gallon given by the car is quite good though it is little low compared to other cars in their range. The 1.6litre engine at the front gives you the adequate performance you require. Overall it is one of the best cars in the medium sized segments and is quite affordable.

Favourite Features

The car is quite spacious which is one of the many advantages it has over its counterparts. The power it generates is also one of the key attributes I like about this car. The car is well painted and has a good finishing. Overall its exteriors are great. I like the tail lamps of my car as it is somewhat unique. The drivers seat is also pretty spacious and comfortable. The handling of the car is good and especially at corners the handling is perfect. The initial thrust is pretty good. Finally I like this car as a whole package which includes the handling and the looks.

Suggested Improvements

There are nothing much that could be improved in the car. The electronic gadgets that comes along with the car can be improved. An in car gps would be a great inclusion to the car as I always use a tomtom to navigate. A better stock music system will be much appreciated. The tyres of the car could be litte bigger which will provide extra grip on road. It would be better if there are lot more colours that comes along with this car. Other than that I can think of any other attributes that can improve this car as everything else for me is perfect.

Mondeo 1.8 TDCI better than expected

Review by Matthew Gribben on 4/10/2010

Review

When waiting for the new 60 plate Mondeo 1.8 TDCi to arrive I wasn't really sure what to expect from it. This is the last of the line of 1.8 TDCi's as im told Ford are to fade out this engine spec as it over laps with the 2.0 TDCi's.

On paper it is quite a close call between to two so I can understand why they are doing it. Mine comes with cruise control, all round electric windows and door mirriors, a nice set of alloy wheels and a 125 PS diesel engine that will get me a real world 45 mpg mixed driving, 55 mpg on the motorway if I act like im driving miss daisy.

It's provides quite a smooth ride with good road holding, the engine is quite refined for a diesel engine and despite its low power output isnt slow and has a decent 'kick' from the turbo.

I owned a 2.0 TDCI mk3 mondeo way back in 2004 and the current generation is leaps and bounds ahead of that one. I've also driven alot of cars from the german automakers and the Mondeo certainly gives them a good run for their money on the standard specs and road holding front.

I had only one problem with the car and that was with in 1 day of owning it a power steering line failed on me, this resulting in the steering more or less locking up on me in a corner.

Favourite Features

Has to be the voice control. It's not quite perfect but it is plenty of fun and quite handy if you dont want to take your eyes off the road for more than a split second. Combine that with the build in bluetooth and you're on to a winner with this motor.

Suggested Improvements

The only thing I could suggest that would make the car better would be nicer seats and less road noise in the cabin. While neither are massive issues they still have room for improvement.

Another bug bare of mine is Ford's Cruise control system, unlike other cars systems I've used the Ford ones seem to want to accelerate without being prompted or needing them to. Often this results in the car accelerating towards the car in front of you.

Saab for example gets the cruise control spot on, so up your game henry!

FORD MONDEO 1.8 GRAPHITE

Review by Sue Mallett on 22/6/2010

Review

This is a smooth, practical car that is very user friendly. I have never broken down in the 7 years I have had it. The room in the back has been very useful in moving house twice. Also very good for car boot sales. It holds the road well and is a nice smooth ride.

Favourite Features

My favourite features are the electric windows as I didnt have this on my previous car, the cup holder is flash but I have never used it and also the cd player being in the dashboard was a novelty as well, used to be in the boot of my old car.

Suggested Improvements

Can't think of any, I have never had a problem with anything to do with this car. I would recommend a Ford Mondeo to anyone.

2002 Mondeo 2.0tdci Zetec

Review

This car is fantastic to drive, the fuel economy is great, put £5 in and get around 50-60 miles! You can sit at 30 in 5th gear at less than 1000 revs, thats the same as tick-over!! I have driven similar cars and nothing beats the drive, recently I had an 09 plate 1.8 petrol Vauxhall Insignia, this car looked fantasic & was nice inside, but was awfully slow and was completely rubbish on fuel! The Mondeo definitely comes in 1st place against similar family cars. My Mondeo has 1 problem which is the drivers door locking mechanism which stops the remote locking from working sometimes, apparently its a common fault and Fords are always a bit pants when it comes to basic electrics.

Favourite Features

My favourite feature on the Ford Mondeo is the huge boot they give you, you can fit so much into this boot without even removing the parcel shelf! I also like the stylish layout of the dash board and how they make a family car feel very exclusive to drive.

Suggested Improvements

My suggested improvements are for Ford to spend a little more time and money on there basic electrics. My drivers door locking mechanism is playing up and I had to replace the washer jet pump because that had also died.

Great for space!!!

Review by James Duncan on 30/4/2010

Review

My car is great and I would be lost without it, it is used for so many things from shopping to school runs to being used as a work horse. The boot space is fab, just yesterday I managed to fit to plants in to the car which were very big plus a hanging basket plus 2 x fence post that are 8' feet long - now how good is that for space? The car is a diamond.

Favourite Features

Air conditioning, electric windows and boot space, cd player, cup holders, good upholstery, spacious leg room, good all round family car I think.

Suggested Improvements

I dont think that the car needs improvements as it is a great car as it is but if there was to be an improvement I think that it should have been the wheels, I think that the wheels should have been made more attractive.

Mondeo Magic

Review by Geoffrey Williams on 28/4/2010

Vehicle

Review

The Mondeo is a large car, with a very roomy boot, ideal for lots of baggage, also the back falls flat so if you have a dog he has lots of room to lie down in the back. Also, you can collect large items ie flat packs, even 2 seater sofas. Very good on petrol useage and diesel. I have owned a Ford Mondeo now for many years, since they faded out the Fiesta.

Favourite Features

Temperature gauge is handy, automatic driving on motorways. Warning lights on every feature. Good choice of colours.

Suggested Improvements

None I can think of... maybe more colours to choose from or automatic locking device on doors, as you walk away from the car.

Ford Mondeo hatchback 05

Review by Sandra Purser on 28/4/2010

Review

Great family car with loads of room. Smooth comfortable ride, get the 1.8 as 1.6 is a bit low on power and make sure battery is big enough. We had to buy a new battery. Parts etc easy to come by and reasonably priced.

Favourite Features

I love the cruise control, especially when in an area with speed camera just set it and you know your not going to get caught. Loads of room to cart around furniture even with four people in the car.

Suggested Improvements

A bit sluggish on take off and at lower speeds. Heating controls could be easier to use without having to keep looking at the dash away from the road.

Love the reliability

Review by Jens on 27/4/2010

Review

These cars just keep on going, Ford have revitalized the brand with this car, nigh on bullet proof, the diesel engines are troopers. Ford builds diesels that are agricultural in nature but smooth and economical. The build quality of the Mondeo is not quite Audi standard but has improved hugely in the past decade, the plastics feel good, the ergonomics make driving comfortable and everything that needs to be there is, a very complete package.

Favourite Features

The stalk controls are the best I have used, they just somehow feel right, they do everything in a somewhat organised and well thought out manner.

Suggested Improvements

The only thing that I would change is the ride height, its a little too close to the road for my liking, I prefer to be seated a little higher and a slightly better field of vision.

My Ford

Review by Symon Rodgers on 14/3/2010

5Dr Hat 2.5T Ghia

Review

Some time ago I decided to get myself a vehicle that was not 4 wheel drive. I looked around for couple of months until one wet, windy day (the pleasures of living on the east coast on the land of the free and skint!) I saw at the rear of this dodgy looking forecourt a rather sad looking Ford Mondeo. As I walked around the car I noticed that in fact someone once loved this motor as the tires were high spec, as was the interior. On looking further I noticed that this car had more extras than a Ben Hur movie as being the Ghia X model and everything worked!! S reg, 85.000 on the clock, mot 9 months, tax 8 months, exhaust new, radiator new the list goes on. Anyway, found sales person (not sure as up here they kinda look the same at times- esp on a friday chucking out time!!! scarey) got handful of keys. I pushed button on the alarm thing, it worked and very smoothly, the car opened, I got in, looked around. It was like a aircraft cockpit, inserted key and with foot on cluth turned key and she lit up and turned over and fired into life for the first time in 2 months, smooth as you like. Watched rev counter and the oil pressure, she sat at 820 rpm and slowly she totally came to life, you could'nt hear the engine and I had the door open, opened the bonnet. Wow, it was immaculate with that 2.5 purring gently, it was like looking at a new car, and it had'nt been steamed cleaned. Opened boot, everything there, even the first aid kit, it had the spare wheel (alloy) there but not in usual place, why!?? cos the car had an LPG system fitted(proffesionally done) gently closed boot lid, got back in car found the gas switch override switch, complete with gauge, nearly full tank of gas, 3/4 tank of petrol top of the range bose sound system, complete with 9 inch slide away screen in centre of the dashboard. Took the car for test, you would not believe you were in an S reg Ford!!! Came back and proceeded to enquire about price, the garage owner said that if I gave him £500 cash I could drive it away, he obviously knew nothing about the car as he said, quote "you'd be doin me a favor as it was taking up valuable space". I said in response to his words that if I'm doing him a favour then he could do me one in return and would he accept £350, he looked at me, laughed and said if I gave him £400 there and then I'd have a deal. DONE! Several months down the line this beautiul lady is looking amazing, sounds fab, handles beautifully, loads of power, its a manual gearbox, so great through the gears, stunning colour of metillic bronze/green. Leather everywhere inc roof lining door cards etc, full stainless exhaust inc manifolds, downpipes, being a V6 it has amazing mid range and on top of all that, believe it or not, it spent the 1st 3 yrs as a police pursuit car, but was only used 23 times by the traffic police so she has slightly better suspension, up ratted front and rear anti roll bars. You cant believe the handling and her abillity to get up and go! I've taken her out on track days now and again and there's not much that can stay with her, can do the 1/4 mile in 10.4 and 0-60 in 4.7secs. and she is a safe solid family car, and she looks box standard ie, no porridge gun rear exhaust etc, amazing in the snow, as you can switch the traction control on off, THANK you FORD!

Favourite Features

Gadgets, I love them as long as they are practical, and do what they say they do. my Ford is loaded, I love the on board computer, it really is a massive bonus, it can work out how much fuel is left and how far I can expect it to last. The handling of this car is terriffic, and even if I end up pushing her too quick into a bend then as long as you're on the ball then she will assist in getting you out of what could be a disaster. When my lady is in shopping there is a multitude of on board toys to keep me satisified for ages. Fuel economy is pretty good too considering the lump under the bonnet, on a long run I can get well over the 30mpg, after a long run cos of the more than comfortable seating I can reluctantly bounce out and there is no discomfort at all.

Suggested Improvements

To be honest I'm going to struggle here because I think that Ford have developed a cracking car for the market. OK I scored with this one what with it being an ex-police unmarked car, I think that if Ford were to offer these extras or even put them on as standard then I guess that there would be less folk endng up in a field or worse!!! Even down to the brakes, I've compared mine to a friend's one which is the same model apart from the X after the Ghia and mine is totally on a different level, I'm a keen off-roader and have several Landrovers and several other make's and models with different modifications, so dont often buy cars, but we now have two, Ford and recently an P reg A4 estate for our dogs one is 11 stone and even with backseats down in the Ford there is a hassle cos you have to take out 3 rear headrests put them on floor, remove the rear boot cover, which is a pain to get back in it's notches and there is a large lip to get over either in or out. The front arm rests could do with more adjustment but apart from that I really cant fault my Ford, AND its great on the LPG as well, am going to fit it onto our A4 as well, and will do the job myself as I owned a garage for 14 years so I know what I'm doing and have done the course. Perhaps that is something that most car manufactures should consider.

Ford Mondeo 2003

Review by Sue Mallett on 13/3/2010

Vehicle

5Dr Hat 1.8Tdci Zetec

Review

I thoroughly recommend Mondeos, I have had 3 different ones over the period of the last 15 years and can honestly say, none of them have ever broken down on me. I still have the 2003 Mondeo and I love it, its quiet and reliable, what more could you want.

Favourite Features

I love the temperature advice as when I see it is under 0 I slow down automatically in case of ice, whereas before, it is possible I might not have realised and hit a patch of ice and ended up off the road or worse.

Suggested Improvements

Possibly change the clock to a digital one as it would be easier to read than the normal clock face that it has at the moment, on bright days it is very difficult to see.
