Great, reliable car

Review

I've had my Honda Civic for 2 and a half years now and I just don't want to part with it. In all that time it's never broken down, never not started and has cost me hardly anything for repairs and mot's. I would recommend a civic to anyone who wants a safe, reliable cheap to run car full of great features.

Favourite Features

Driver and passenger airbags, adjustable height steering wheel, sunroof, all electric windows, sunroof and mirrors. Comfortable seats and plenty of legroom. Small engine size for cheap car tax but good enough performance for comfortable motorway driving.

Suggested Improvements

It's really hard to think of improvements as I absolutely love this car but one small niggle is I've found the electric windows can be sluggish in very cold weather. I also had this trouble with a previous Honda.

To be Honest

Review by Helen Rankin on 27/4/2010

Review

That nice looking car that was what I thought too! Now lets be honest company drivers get to drive some pretty decent cars these days and I have had my fair share of such, my last was a CRV before the Civic and I wanted a change, something nippy, visual and easy to handle, well easy to handle sums up this small car but only just, the steering is awful and a 3 point turn easily becomes 5 points visibility is by far the worst I have ever experienced. It is impossible to see the front of the car so parking is guess work, the back window is a hazard as the view is all but obliterated by that silly spoiler bar!! Fuel consumption on the other hand is the best I have ever experienced with my 2.2 engine easily ranging between 51-58 mpg so that is a definite winner for me. Comfort is also great and is a lovely car to drive. Boot space is cleverly designed to obtain maximum use and for extra space the back seating is easy to recline and also has extra storage under the rear seats. The Heating is not really up to scratch when you compare it with other cars and probably takes 1/2 hour in the winter to even get warm. Overall not the best but as a high mileage driver, I would recommend that this car is hired for a week before considering a purchase.

Favourite Features

My favourite features are the very economic MPG, dashboard instruments well laid out, Comfortable seating and well thought out storage space for the size of car.

Suggested Improvements

Remove the back rear window spoiler bar from eyeline view, higher the bonnet so it is visible from a driving position, improve entertainment sound systems. Fit front and rear parking sensors as standard.

Honda Civic Turbo Diesel

Review by Ian Atkinson on 27/4/2010

Review

Our Honda Civic is not the latest model, but a 2002 model. Not the most individual design, for that you need the current model, but ours is easy and fun to drive with lots of ooomph from the 1.7TD motor. This car is ultra reliable, very nimble with great overtaking ability. Unfussy, with the gear stick coming out of the central dash, looks odd but is very handy, and leaves lots of floor space clear for bags etc.

Favourite Features

High roofline, making it very easy to get in/out of, even with a bad back. Economy, easily up to 50mpg average overall. Reliable, always starts at the first turn of he key in all weathers. Build quality, typical great Honda quality, no rattles in this baby. Fun to drive, great torque and acceleration.

Suggested Improvements

Ride is not the softest, making it handle very well, but surely Honda could find dampers that are a bit softer on the bum. Seats are a good fit but would benefit from extra pading to relieve the pain from the hard ride.

Honda Civic 1.4 Automatic

Review by Judith Deadman on 27/4/2010

Review

Very comfortable seats, they're firm and give good support for front seat passengers' backs (I've never sat in the back but assume they're much the same). It's a hatchback and you can get quite a lot when the back seats are folded down, furniture included, although the wheel arches reduce the width compared with my previous car, a Honda Civic Shuttle 1.4 Automatic, which had even more room in the back. Easy to drive, easy to park.

Favourite Features

Automatic adjustment of the wing mirrors from the driving seat - saves a lot of time and trouble! Flat top to dashboard, makes it easy to place the satnav there on its beanbag.

Suggested Improvements

Rear window is rather small, and the wipers don't clear all of it. Very difficult to access the bulb for the clock - it's a major job to remove the casing, and even puzzled the car mechanic at the garage. All Honda spare parts are very expensive.

Honda Civic 2.2 CTDi Sport

Review by Martin Hancock on 24/4/2010

Review

I've been impressed with the reliability and build quality of this car which has never let me down in the three years I have owned it. Although the styling may not be to everyone's taste, the dashboard is well laid out and all controls and switches are easily accessible.

Favourite Features

Performance from the 2.2l diesel engine is superb easily surpassing the petrol version with bags of torque. Handling is superb on twisty country roads and although the ride is firm, it is still comfortable over long journeys. The amount of storage space is vast thanks to the seats which can be folded flat or folded up out of the way to allow storage of large items.

Suggested Improvements

The only problem is poor rear visibility due to the split rear windscreen spoiler, but you soon get used to this.

Trouble or fine?

Review by Nancy Petts on 31/12/2009

Review

Well this car is fantastic for its style and look, I got this car on sale at a auction. The problem I had with the car was heavy on petrol taking 1.8 litres which is heavy. This meant my insurance was sky high plus I was spending so much money every week just on the petrol!

The car used to take so much petrol in fact two trips to local shopping centre at times would see me needing more petrol! So in terms of buying this car to save money you will end up losing a huge amount to insurance plus the weekly costs of petrol.

The car it self as a runner was decent not always reliable though. It did run on the motorway for me to perfection with no problems at all. However in the bad weather it was the worst car ever it would not get up any hills at all.

The speed of the car is luxurious which means by hitting your foot on the gas button too quick you speed up too fast. I still found the car to be a good speedy one but in terms of costing me too much money, I had no choice but to get rid of it.

Favourite Features

The car is just lovely from the interior inside the space inside is actually small. The style of the car though inside is just lovely very posh and looks sporty inside to. The heater of the car was very fast to warm up on every occasion for me.

The car engine made too much noise when starting up, its annoying starting your car up with a loud engine it may look cool to you, it was to me but your neighbors will certainly not like it even though its a favourite feature!

Suggested Improvements

The biggest improvement of the car I can see after owning it is the space in the boot. Why did they hardly put any space in the back at all for? It was a issue going shopping then having to put my bags in the back seat of the car rather than the boot.

You really can not say much else it would have been better if they had some stronger brakes put in to. However at 1.8 you know what you are getting really.

Great Car!

Review by Sarah McAdam on 8/12/2009

Review

I bought my Honda second hand and was worried as this was the first car I had not bought from new. I have to say that I am SO impressed with it. It drives like a dream, people comment on how lovely the car looks despite the fact it is 7 years old and to date (I have had it 18 months) it is just perfect. Its Japanese and therefore you cannot beat the quality. HIGHLY recommended.

Favourite Features

Practicality, performace (even though it is only a 1.4). Reliability is five star - that was my main reason for buying Honda in the first place.

Suggested Improvements

The only improvement I would suggest making to this car would be the comfort - whilst its a great car, the seats are not the most comfortable especially for those people who want to drive long distances.

Beast of a car

Review by Saunnyy Jim on 7/12/2009

Vehicle

HAT 1.8i VTEC SE

Review

I had this beast of a car for a few months back in 2007 and got the car cheap. This car is one you would judge on its looks as it looks very good. You can get these cars with loud engines as they stand out because of the noise you get from the engine of the car.

The exhaust style is very different along with the body shape of the car. I would say its cool looking because of its unique style. The interior design of the car is not much different being well spaced out and being cool inside to.

On the road the car flies like a fast runner! It just picks up speed instantly and does drive too fast. In my case I find this to be dangerous as it can easily lead to accidents. Its also very heavy on the petty with the car being 1.8 do expect your petrol to run out fast!

The car in the time I had it used to cost me way too much money on the petrol. It was also my first car so those getting insured on their own policy for the first time should look at a cheaper car to insure as this one being 1.8 in litre will cost you too much.

Favourite Features

What attracted me to the car most was the shape of it. I never got the car because of recommended performances told by friends. I got the car for its shape but despite saying that the car did do well on the road for me. It was reliable in taking me far to places I had never been before.

Even with the road being slippery and wet the car was easy to controls I always felt in control! The features that stood out the most were the speed of the car and how easy it was to drive any body would have like that about the car.

Suggested Improvements

A improvement that comes into my mind is the space inside the car at the front. Now with the shape being designed as cool and funky its not good for the driver inside. You have little space to put your feet and stretch them a little. The car at the back is spaced right but at the front I find the spacing to be awkward.

The lock system that was fitted by the manufacturer was also a pain for me. i remember having trouble with the locks sometimes they would lock themselves and never open. The car could have been good with a child lock but that was not put in!

Fantastic Civic

Review by Mr. Rooban Mahalingam on 7/12/2009

HAT 1.4i VTEC Si

Review

I have had my Civic for just over a year and its been a fantastic car. It does the job of being a family car very, very well. The car looks fresh, has a roomy, clever, interior and is fitted with zestful VTEC engine. It’s a popular with people like me who need a respectable family car that’s unlikely to let them down. The build quality is typical Honda: well engineered and utterly reliable. The fuel consumption is fine too as it gives good mileage for its tank.

Favourite Features

My favourite characters have to be reliability, ease of driving and maintenance. As I mentioned above the car is very liable and never let me down ever. Honda's are a pleasure to drive as they are smooth handlers and easy to move around.

Suggested Improvements

Honda's tend have bland styling, some cheap plastics inside and overly light steering. These are minor issues or disadvantages but would be nice to get them sorted out.

Hona Civic

Review by Katherine Clark on 7/12/2009

Vehicle

HAT 1.4i VTEC SE

Review

My Honda Civic is a very reliable car, dont have any trouble with it (you wait it will break down now lol). I have had a few problems with the exhaust pipe. It is a spacious family car and very comfortable to drive.

Favourite Features

Reliability, I do like the spacious boot space and how comfortable the car is. Not at all bumpy when driving along the road. I also feel safe in the car. It is a nice size.

Suggested Improvements

Exhaust pipe could be a little better, apparently Hondas' are known for their bad exhaust pipes. I have had to have 3 so far, the last problem I had was the wire black hair coming out of it.
