Trouble or fine?

Review by Nancy Petts on 31/12/2009

Review

Well this car is fantastic for its style and look, I got this car on sale at a auction. The problem I had with the car was heavy on petrol taking 1.8 litres which is heavy. This meant my insurance was sky high plus I was spending so much money every week just on the petrol!

The car used to take so much petrol in fact two trips to local shopping centre at times would see me needing more petrol! So in terms of buying this car to save money you will end up losing a huge amount to insurance plus the weekly costs of petrol.

The car it self as a runner was decent not always reliable though. It did run on the motorway for me to perfection with no problems at all. However in the bad weather it was the worst car ever it would not get up any hills at all.

The speed of the car is luxurious which means by hitting your foot on the gas button too quick you speed up too fast. I still found the car to be a good speedy one but in terms of costing me too much money, I had no choice but to get rid of it.

Favourite Features

The car is just lovely from the interior inside the space inside is actually small. The style of the car though inside is just lovely very posh and looks sporty inside to. The heater of the car was very fast to warm up on every occasion for me.

The car engine made too much noise when starting up, its annoying starting your car up with a loud engine it may look cool to you, it was to me but your neighbors will certainly not like it even though its a favourite feature!

Suggested Improvements

The biggest improvement of the car I can see after owning it is the space in the boot. Why did they hardly put any space in the back at all for? It was a issue going shopping then having to put my bags in the back seat of the car rather than the boot.

You really can not say much else it would have been better if they had some stronger brakes put in to. However at 1.8 you know what you are getting really.

Great Car!

I bought my Honda second hand and was worried as this was the first car I had not bought from new. I have to say that I am SO impressed with it. It drives like a dream, people comment on how lovely the car looks despite the fact it is 7 years old and to date (I have had it 18 months) it is just perfect. Its Japanese and therefore you cannot beat the quality. HIGHLY recommended.

Favourite Features

Practicality, performace (even though it is only a 1.4). Reliability is five star - that was my main reason for buying Honda in the first place.

Suggested Improvements

The only improvement I would suggest making to this car would be the comfort - whilst its a great car, the seats are not the most comfortable especially for those people who want to drive long distances.

Beast of a car

Review by Saunnyy Jim on 7/12/2009

Review

I had this beast of a car for a few months back in 2007 and got the car cheap. This car is one you would judge on its looks as it looks very good. You can get these cars with loud engines as they stand out because of the noise you get from the engine of the car.

The exhaust style is very different along with the body shape of the car. I would say its cool looking because of its unique style. The interior design of the car is not much different being well spaced out and being cool inside to.

On the road the car flies like a fast runner! It just picks up speed instantly and does drive too fast. In my case I find this to be dangerous as it can easily lead to accidents. Its also very heavy on the petty with the car being 1.8 do expect your petrol to run out fast!

The car in the time I had it used to cost me way too much money on the petrol. It was also my first car so those getting insured on their own policy for the first time should look at a cheaper car to insure as this one being 1.8 in litre will cost you too much.

Favourite Features

What attracted me to the car most was the shape of it. I never got the car because of recommended performances told by friends. I got the car for its shape but despite saying that the car did do well on the road for me. It was reliable in taking me far to places I had never been before.

Even with the road being slippery and wet the car was easy to controls I always felt in control! The features that stood out the most were the speed of the car and how easy it was to drive any body would have like that about the car.

Suggested Improvements

A improvement that comes into my mind is the space inside the car at the front. Now with the shape being designed as cool and funky its not good for the driver inside. You have little space to put your feet and stretch them a little. The car at the back is spaced right but at the front I find the spacing to be awkward.

The lock system that was fitted by the manufacturer was also a pain for me. i remember having trouble with the locks sometimes they would lock themselves and never open. The car could have been good with a child lock but that was not put in!

Fantastic Civic

Review by Mr. Rooban Mahalingam on 7/12/2009

Review

I have had my Civic for just over a year and its been a fantastic car. It does the job of being a family car very, very well. The car looks fresh, has a roomy, clever, interior and is fitted with zestful VTEC engine. It’s a popular with people like me who need a respectable family car that’s unlikely to let them down. The build quality is typical Honda: well engineered and utterly reliable. The fuel consumption is fine too as it gives good mileage for its tank.

Favourite Features

My favourite characters have to be reliability, ease of driving and maintenance. As I mentioned above the car is very liable and never let me down ever. Honda's are a pleasure to drive as they are smooth handlers and easy to move around.

Suggested Improvements

Honda's tend have bland styling, some cheap plastics inside and overly light steering. These are minor issues or disadvantages but would be nice to get them sorted out.

Hona Civic

Review

My Honda Civic is a very reliable car, dont have any trouble with it (you wait it will break down now lol). I have had a few problems with the exhaust pipe. It is a spacious family car and very comfortable to drive.

Favourite Features

Reliability, I do like the spacious boot space and how comfortable the car is. Not at all bumpy when driving along the road. I also feel safe in the car. It is a nice size.

Suggested Improvements

Exhaust pipe could be a little better, apparently Hondas' are known for their bad exhaust pipes. I have had to have 3 so far, the last problem I had was the wire black hair coming out of it.

Reliable as always

Review by Rebecca Allan on 7/12/2009

I've had this car from nearly new (inherited from my mum) and despite long commutes for several years to Staines and Windsor and lots of around town driving, it still drives well. After 12 years the only things I've had to replace are the usual tyres and exhaust, and a battery last Winter as the old one had corroded. I go to my local garage rather than the main dealer, who was singularly unhelpful when I needed advice on fitting 3 car seats, and parts and labour are therefore very affordable. I've never had a bill over £200. My insurance is also reasonable now at around £300, although that may be because I reached 40 this year.
With 3 kids the inside is looking a bit tatty, and the outside has a couple of very small rust spots, but it is still going strong and I will almost certainly buy another one in the next couple of years. It isn't as eye catching as my old red Alfa Romeo 33, and has no pulling power or street cred. But my Honda is quieter and doesn't wake up the neighbours in the morning and has never left me embarrassed on the hard shoulder surrounded by smoke.

Favourite Features

I love the various seat adjustments as I am short and often struggle to see over the bonnet and boot when parking and pulling out. The pockets in the back of the front seats are really handy for maps and things that the kids need on long journeys. The other handy well/pocket is behind the handbrake which is a perfect size for passengers to put drinks, sunglasses and tissues in.
The change pocket next to the steering wheel is great for loose change and receipts and my children haven't discovered it yet so it stays full for when I need parking money!

Suggested Improvements

The heater is not particularly good and it takes ages to heat up. I would say it's getting on a bit now, but it was like this from new and I had it replaced last year and still have the same problem.
A heated front screen would be good for frosty cold mornings to minimise scrapping the wondscreen. Also electric window buttons would be better on the doors themselves rather than next to the handbrake. I always find the bonnet release hard to find, so a larger catch or auto release would be useful. Similarly locating the boot and petrol cap release next to one another means you quite often release the wrong one.

Honda Civic

Review by Mr S Hussain on 7/12/2009

Review

Well I brought my present car about 6 months ago based on the fact that I've always brought Honda Civic. But this time I decided to come out of my shell and go for a sportier model.

I was extremely satisfied with my purchase. It took the reliability of a normal Civic and tagged on a sportier look and feel such that when I am driving the car, I still get admiring glances from petrolheads.

That not to say its a sports car, when you want economical driving it will deliver and compared to similar cars in its class the extras which come as standard easily make this the best value medium size car I have brought.

Favourite Features

All of the extras such as PAS Electric windows/Mirrors and the 16 inch alloy wheels which easily could pass for expensive ones. The futuristic feel of the cabin which I love and suprisingly the size of the boot which looks deceptively small, but once the seats are folded it can carry a heck of a lot.

Suggested Improvements

The front end of the car whilst it looks sportier, I would like it to be a liitle toned down so it looks like a wolf in sheeps clothing.

This is my second car and I'm well impressed with the performance and reliability. I love the interior and the outer appearance. Fuel economy is not so great and it guzzled up like theres no tomorrow...that was the only downside of it.

Favourite Features

The awesome look its sooo sexy and people stop and stare...wow I love the attention lol the performane is great too.

Suggested Improvements

You need to improve the fuel guzzling problem otherwise everything about this car is faultless, well done Honda. I'll be back to buy another one soon.

Honda Civic 1.4SE

Review

I have the 1.4SE model in red on a 2001 (Y plate). It is a great car. I have had it for 3 and a 1/2 years now and I have had no problems. It is very reliable and gives good fuel economy. I have owned around 7 Honda's this has been one of the best. It is however a little underpowered.

Favourite Features

Very good fuel economy. Honda's reliability! Quite nippy. Good interior everything is in the right place. Lots of room in the back. The gearstick location.

Suggested Improvements

A little underpowered. Cuts out in cold weather when I haven't heated the car enough. Doesn't pick up very quickly. Not many storage compartments.

Brilliant Car

Review by Gary Hall on 6/12/2009

Review

This is one of the best cars I have driven. I was a bit put off on buying a non-British car for the first time, but I am glad I did. Certainly reliable and value for money. It looks like a car that will stand the test of time and British weather conditions.

Favourite Features

Comfortable interior. Great heating system. The exterior trim and lighting look pretty cool, making it stand out in a crowd. Gear changes are smooth and fast.

Suggested Improvements

Neater dashboard. Maybe there could be a better music system added, but that is not a big issue for me. Front screen heating might help too.
