Reliable, stylish, decent-all-around alternative

Review by Nik Boggs on 28/4/2010

Review

The car has completed 4 years - 30k miles without no serious reliability issues. Other surveys show gearbox might be the first thing to go but nothing so far. The 3-cylinder engine is one of the quickest 1 to 1.1 litre engines around, pretty frugal although not the most economic in ultimate numbers consumption tax & insurance (see Toyota Aygo). Handling is fine maybe just on the firm side. Extremely spacious especially front leg & head room. The inside with its hard plastics may look a bit tacky to some and the annoying glove compartment that tends to fall down over bumps is a well-known issue. No jack for mp3 players. Wheels of this trim ('Mirage'/CZ3) are 16" wide & low-profile which means they give plenty of road noise (can be hard at times to hear the sound system), and replacement tyres can be pricey. Car looks great and not a common sight on roads, the 3d version has completely different body shape to the ugly 5-door one, even better with bigger wheels & colour-coded bumpers although rear spoiler maybe a tad too agressive for what it is. There has been a recent update to the styling (front mask from the Lancer) but the older model looks much prettier in most people's eyes. Depreciation not bad but may not be one of the best in its class.

Favourite Features

Reliability, nippy engine, road handling, interior space, looks of the 3-door at this trim, no major deficiencies

Suggested Improvements

Visibility from wide pillars, practicality of the 3-door, tyre and engine noise, not a 'premium' brand.

Review of my car

Review by Sharon Ansell on 27/4/2010

Review

My car is coloured blue, it is a five door estate, it has central locking along with electic windows and has air conditioning. The drivers seat is adjustable, it is very economical on petrol, it does 0-60 in 13.4 seconds, it has 84 break horse power, it does fifty miles to the gallon, it is a very low insurance group, it has a manual gear box. 4 cylinders, it also has 16 v valves, the maximum roof load it can hold is 100 kg, the maximum towing weight it can pull is 1075 kg, it make a lovely family car. It also has power steering.

Favourite Features

My favourite features of my car is the boot space as I can fit in quite a lot of shopping. It is so nice to have electric windows instead of trying to manually wind them down. The power steeting makes life so much easier. I often drive on long distance journeys up and down the country, the fuel consumption is excellent on the motorways. I also the fact that I car is quite high so therefore it makes it easier to get in and out of the car as I have back problems. I absolutely love the mirror that is found on the sunvisor as it has a mirror on the drivers side so therefore I can check out my make up bofore I go to work.

Suggested Improvements

If I had to make improvements on my car I would like it to have remote central locking, as I find it a pain when I have an arm full of stuff going to my car then I have to manually turn the key so I can open the door. I would like my car to have been a diesel as I said before as I go on long journeys it would be even more fuel efficent. I would also like to have electric mirrors instead of manual.

I like it a lot!

A car that offers economical motoring, ok, not the most stylish or best looking car, but it has certainly given me and my family great service over the years. I have had no major problems of any description, although I have maintained it very well and thoroughly.

Favourite Features

It has to be the economy of the car. It was well priced at the time of purchase as well. I have found nothing to complain about with this little gem.

Suggested Improvements

Could always be more stylish I suppose but it is ideal for what I wanted it for, it has served me well. More comfort would have been appreciated. I got what I paid for in the end and have no real gripes at all.

An inexpensive hot hatch

Review by Judith Linton on 5/2/2010

Vehicle

3Dr Hatch 1.5 Di-D Cz3

Review

Forget the french hot hatches, this Colt Cz3 diesel 3 door is a little gem of a car and one of the most reliable I have owned. Very quick off the mark and has a 3 cylinder merc engine on board which sounds awesome for a small car, (or as the police said when I was last stopped - they heard me coming before they saw me).

Favourite Features

The drive and handling, grips the roads like salt, put rain sport tyres on and this little car does not move an inch in deep puddles. The depth of the boot, can get loads of stuff in the car and is very roomy, sliding back seat.

Suggested Improvements

There is a new model Colt out last year and I think my biggest gripe with the car has been sorted. The blind spot!! The pillar is so thick that it blanks out cars at junctions and roundabouts. But this fault actually makes you a better driver, as you have to look that much harder for other traffic.

My Colt

Review by Marie Edwards on 12/1/2010

Review

The Colt is a lovely car to drive. This is the triptronic version so switching from manual to automatic is so easy. The Colt has fantastic fuel consumption, I put the same amount of petrol in as I did my old car, but drive twice as much. It has a roomy interior back and front. Looks good, and drives smooth and quiet.

Favourite Features

It's automatic! So easy to drive, no more clutch. Comfortable seats, plenty of room in passnger seats. Quiet engine.

Suggested Improvements

Although this car is excellent with most things, it could be improved on the road holding on the snow and ice. Could use a bit more room in the boot, but it's ok.

Mitsubishi Colt 3dr

Review by Jeremy Birt on 8/12/2009

Vehicle

3Dr Hatch 1.3 Cz2

Review

With its fantastic powerful yet economic 1.3 engine the Mitsubishi Colt 3dr has to be considered when looking to buy a small faimly town car. With its class leading head room & sporty styling prices are low compared to other cars in its class & savings of up to £1000 can be made when buying compared to its rivals. The rear sliding split seats mean there is enough room in the back of the vehicle to seat 2 fully grown adults with ease. These seats also fully lift up & fold down leaving a completely flat floor spare big enough to fit approx 2 washing machines in. The styling of the 3 the sporty door is completely different to the ugly looking 5 door from the front doors backwards & with most 3 door models you get alloy wheels & rear spoiler as standard. I would personally recomend the 3door unless car styling is not on your important list thus you could then consider the 5 door version. Interia trim levels are high as you would expect & most models come with air con, electric windows, cd player & sunroof allthough the build quality with regards to the interia is a little bit poor & plastic looking, with minor rattles comming from the instrument panel & glovebox after only a few thousand miles. This comes as a huge suprize as Mitsubishi quality is normally very good. In summer you can pick up a 2 year old colt for around £3,995 with 12mths warranty still to run which is well under the price of some of its rivals. So if your after a practical nippy small town cars thats big enough to take the whole family on a day out of an old chest freezer down to the dump you might want to give the colt a look. Just be prepared with poor interia build quailty & loard road noise from the low profile tyres.

Favourite Features

On board computer. Very practical split/slide & lift rear seats. Economic & sporty 1.3 engine. Good head room & comfort levels

Suggested Improvements

Blind spot front screen pillars, rear opening windows, better sound proofing throughtout & more detail to quality needed on interia fittings & fixtures.

Japanese Reliability

Review by Dan Philipson on 8/12/2009

Vehicle

5Dr Hatch 1.3 Cz2

Review

Having only ever owned Western cars, it was seen as a slight gamble by myself to "turn Japanese" by giving a Mitsubishi a try. Despite possessing a smaller engine, the Colt is still nippy enough for my needs, and respresents tremendous value for the price. Touch wood, two years later I have had no problems with this car, so safety and reliability are certainly not an issue!

Favourite Features

The Mitsubishi Colt Cz2 is deceptively roomy, and provides plenty of back seat space for the kids. It looks stylish enough from the outside for such a practical car.

Suggested Improvements

The interior design does look slightly cheap, with its slightly cheap-looking finish. Power can also be lacking, particularly when driving up hills and it doesn't take too well to carrying heavy loads.

I love my car

Review by Marie Edwards on 7/12/2009

Vehicle

5Dr Hatch 1.3 Cz2

Review

The Mitsubishi Colt is the best car I have ever driven. It is a smooth drive, with superb handling. The fuel consumption is superb. I put the same amount of diesel in as I did my old car, but do twice the amount of miles. Overall, the colt is a nippy little car, only one small thing, the boot could do with being a bit bigger, but overall it's a lovely car.

Favourite Features

Automatic, making it easy to drive. Excellent fuel consumption. Very comfortable drive. Plenty of leg room in the back as long as the front seats are not pushed back too much.

Suggested Improvements

Bigger boot needed, as it doesn't hold much shopping, and I could only fit one suitcase in it. A poor feature should four people need to put four suitcases in the boot.

Colt CZI

Review by Julia Robson on 7/12/2009

Review

I bought this smaller car having always had a larger car to carry the family and baggage on holiday when I realised I didn't need a big car all the time. My daughter, only 13, is 5'6 so I needed a car with plenty of leg room in the back. This car is wonderful. Nippy despite 1.1l engine. Pulls very well with a roof box and four people in it. Comfortable seats and economical on petrol. Boot is amazingly spacious and the adjustable ledge is really useful. Only downside is the front car moulding it can sometimes obscure your view at roundabouts and corners. Very good car for the price. I would definitiely get another.

Favourite Features

I like the comfort of the seats and spacious leg room in the back. The neat boot with the adjustable ledge is my second favourite feature. This is very useful on holidays when you want easy access to coats without pulling everything out of the boot.

Suggested Improvements

The front windscreen is difficult to see out of as a driver when entering roundabouts and turning to the right due to the design of the metal casing to the right of the drivers seat.

Mitsubishi Colt 2005

Review by Patricia Asher on 6/12/2009

Vehicle

3Dr Hatch 1.1 Cz1

Review

Great little car, good around and town and on longer trips - have been all over Europe with this strong 1.1L engine - no problems encountered. Own the sportier 'Mirage' trim. The fuel economy is somewhat lower than the optimisitic official statistics suggest, reliability has been faultless though the wide tyres are expensive, and there is quite a lot of road noise. Visibility is hampered by the strut supports at the side whcih can make it hard to see clearly when turning. Very spacious for a small car

Favourite Features

Spacious, flexible seating, nippy engine, reliable so far, reasonably cheap to run, cute-modern looks, unique & individual model.

Suggested Improvements

Trim and finish a little bit plasticky, red interior a bit tacky, visibility, road & engine noise, brand reputation, high starting price for this trim.
