Renault Grand Scenic (7 Seat)

Review

In honesty this is a great combination of a van and a car. Stylish, roomy and great around town. The extra seats in the back means spontaneously giving someone a lift home is not a major issue as you simply pull up the seats and stick the kids in them. Fold them flat and remove the centre seats and you have a vary spacious compartment that would rival any medium sided van. It does have a couple of down sides though. The 1.6 Petrol engine is not powerful enough in the 7 seat car. As I said, it is fine in the town but get on the motorway and you are searching for an extra gear as the engine revs are very high cruising at 70. Then if you come to any sort of noticeable incline the car struggles and you end up dropping gears and crawling up the hill. Add to that the fact that the car rolls like crazy if you turn the wheel at anything above 20mph and you have a number of very uncomfortable passengers.

On the whole, the car serves a purpose. Ideally suited to the school run, or the workman who needs a van but has kids.

Favourite Features

The most positive feature has to be the large boot space. The automatic hand break is also very useful although it takes a bit to get used to it. Another thing that is quite handy is that it is easy to cross from driver to passenger side as there is no central raised console. This is great when parking such a large vehicle in awkward places.

Suggested Improvements

More storage compartments would be useful. As there is no boot when the rear seats are raised, it is quite difficult to stow everything you need. Drop the 1.6 petrol engine, what's the point in such a small engine in a big car? Go for the Diesel instead!

Good in Some Ways

Review

I have enjoyed my Renault for a number of reasons including the fact that it is comfortable to drive. I have used this car before and after I have had children and found in both cases that it is practical if not a little too large to park. I would not be without the parking sensors as it is great to help with parking in small spaces but would do away with the underfloor storage at the back as this does not allow you to use the Isofix options for child car seats.

Favourite Features

Parking sensors, seats combinations, climate control, speed limiter and the comfort of seating within the vehicle.

Suggested Improvements

Making the rear foldable seats more practice for adults as there is no leg room. Removing the underfloor storage in the back of the car.

Review

All round this is a good car, so far after owning for over a year, there has been no problems whatsoever. The car is very spacious, and has lots of storage space. It is an ideal car for any family. Drives like a dream also. Another major factor why I chose this car was the price, for all the mod-cons included it was still cheaper than a standard zafira.

Favourite Features

Lots of storage space thoughout the car. Has fold out tables in the back, great for when the kids have some food. Can use both the fold up seats in the boot area and still fit a buggy into the back also.

Suggested Improvements

I honestly cannot think of any needed improvements to this car, it has everything that I need, perhaps an extra cup holder, in case I have more than 2 drinks in the front ;)

Brilliant family car

I have driven many cars over the years, both at home and work and I have to say this is my absolute favourite. It is the ultimate family car - they have thought of everything.

Everything is geared towards making life easier when you have a baby in one hand and a toddler in the other. The key is a card that you can pop in your pocket and a sensor allows you to open the car by touching the handle and locking it by pressing a button. Inside there is a start button rather than a key (although have to be pressing the clutch so children couldn't start car on their own). There is a childs view mirror, intergrated sunshade, isofix, hidden storage space under the floor. There is a childlock button which also locks the windows, ample boot space when used as 5 seater, a little boot space when used as 7 seater, seats are easier to put up and down. The rear seats have table like the ones in aeroplanes which is handy for long journey food breaks. You can fold the mirrors in at the touch of a button, control the radio/CD from the steering wheel column.

From a driving point of view I find it has a good high position, is light and easy to park considering its people carrier size and very comfortable for long journeys. Has large storage space in the middle where the handbrake should be (incidently the handbrake is a lever on the right hand side and to release it you just use clutch control - no more hill starts!). All in all ,in case you can't tell I love this car, I have regularly taken 4 adults, 2 children and lots of stuff comfortably and recommend it to all my friends with children. Test drive it you won't be disappointed!

Favourite Features

The card sensor instead of a key is brilliant when you have hands full with kids stuff. Driver operated child lock is handy and less fiddly than the usual fiddly door system. Intergrated child view mirror is handy as previously I have had stick on ones and in my experience they don't stick on very well. Love the amount of stoarge space

Suggested Improvements

None unless they can make a model that stops kids tantrums! I suppose they could make the window screenclear a bit quicker and have heated mirrors for the winter. Money off the price would be nice to ..... seriously though I have hardly any complaints.

Review

The car is large and roomy with seperate seats on the rear and higher driving position makes driving comfortable. But not the most family friendly car strangely enough. Although a seven seater the boot seats have little leg space and getting into them is awkward - really only suitable for young kids. Converting the boot into sitting area is awkward and needs complete boot emptying first. Not very good for the first stage car seats as the window bar does not allow some seats to fit properly. Seperate rear seets a good idea but with kids seats - getting access to the seatbelt fastners is a problem.

Favourite Features

Liked the integrated mirror to keep an eye on the kids. The on board alerts and trip make keeping the car maintained and petrol consumpition monitoring simple.

Suggested Improvements

Make the boot easier to convert to seats - you should not have to empty it first - perhaps move everything to one side. Ensure it works better with car seats for children - access to seatbelt fastners etc.

Avoid this car!

Review

We have now had our Grand Scenic for approx 3 years, out of which it has probably spent six months back and forward to the garage. Common problem occurred with whole electronic dashboard failure, cost (£600). Wiper blades last very little time and are £30 each to replace. Brake discs very thin need replaced after 30000 miles cost £280. Seals on back of car underneath leaked causing spare two seats to rust and jam. Bad fuel economy, Poor at pulling away. Ok when driving on motorways though and lots of space.

Favourite Features

Huge amount of space looks good for the money, handy if extra two seats are OCCASIONALLY required. Very comfortable for long journeys. Lots of extra hidden storage spaces.

Suggested Improvements

Spend a little more money on getting basic things improved. Better brake discs, better wiper blades, dashboard which doesn't fry (very common problem apparently).

Review

It's big, it's comfortable and it's expensive to fix. I like the car, it's very roomy with plenty of internal compartments for bit & bobs. It's also a comfy drive with the high up driving position feeling like you are driving in your armchair.

Plenty of room for the kids in the back and also a capacious boot for the dog and baggage. It's also got a good pull on the engine for towing.

When it runs it's great, when it goes wrong it's expensive and not just in the electrical department.

Favourite Features

The large amount of internal space and comfort with a good "in your lounge" driving position. The additional fold-down-flat seats are very handy which also make room for a big roomy boot!

Suggested Improvements

Reliability in the electrical department is a continued problem and a little more frugalness would be good in a diesel engine.
