I bought this car from new in September 2004 my mum bought the same car at the same time. Both our timing chains were replaced with less than 12000 miles on the clock (changed under warranty). My car then had problems with the electric power steering failing, luckily the problem was highlighted on watchdog and Vauxhall fixed it for free. Whilst it was being fixed I was told I needed another new timing chain £650. Even though the car has now only done 32000 miles they say it is not a faulty part and wont do anything about it. The car has bad blind spots, problem electrics (radio switched itself on and drains battery) The interior is cheap and creaky and the engine knocks at low speeds (but they dont know what that is so you just have to put up with it!)
None, I cannot wait to get rid of this car and buy something better. It is awful to drive, own a decent car that does not come fully fitted with headaches!
Better customer service and stop fitting faulty parts would be a start. If you value your time and bank balance DONT BUY!

I PURCHASED MY MERIVA IN A MOMENT OF MADNESS!! HAVING OWNED AN ASTRA, I FANCIED THE IDEA OF NEWER CAR? OH DEAR HOW WRONG CAN YOU BE, I WENT ALONG TO MY LOCAL DEALER AND SAW MY CAR, MY WIFE LIKED THE COLOUR, I WANTED TO TEST THE DIESEL ASTRA, SHE WON, WE WENT AND DROVE THE MERIVA. I THOUGHT I MIGHT GET TO LIKE IT AS THE MILES WENT BY, OH NO NOT FOR ME, IT COULD'NT LIVE WITH THE ASTRA, IT IS UNDERPOWERED, DOES NOT HAVE ANYWHERE NEAR THE ROAD HOLDING OF THE ASTRA, AND IS ANYTHING BUT ECONOMICAL, DUE TO THE WIND DRAG ON IT. I CANT WAIT TO CHANGE BACK TO THE NEWER STYLE ASTRA, ONLY THE UNSELLABILITY OF IT HOLDS ME BACK. ALL IN ALL I DONT LIKE IT, IT IS A POOR SUSTITUTE FOR THE ASTRA, AND NOTHING LIKE AS PLEASANT AS THE CORSA ON WHICH IT IS BASED.
IT DOES HAVE A GOOD LOAD CARRYING CAPACITY, IT HAS A GREAT HEATER , RELIABILITY IS GOOD, IT IS EASIER TO GET IN AND OUT OF THAN THE CORSA ON WHICH IT IS BASED, AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTING IS GOOD.
ROAD HOLDING IS A BIG CONCERN FOR ME AND NEEDS TO BE IMPROVED, RADIO AND C.D. PLAYER SHOULD BE STANDARD, NOT THE RADIO CASSETTE THAT IS ON THE BOTTOM OF THE RANGE MODELS.

I decided to purchase this car after test driving many others. It is so easy to get in and out of if you are disabled like me as the seats are the same height as your bottom so no struggling to get in or out of the car which was the main selling point for me.
It offers a very comfortable ride and comes with 2 sunroofs and very dark tinted windows which do keep the car cooler when it is in the sun. Excellent driving position and good all round visibility.
The only thing I would improve is alloys as standard instead of alloy effect wheel trims. There is not a lot else you can improve on perfection.

Well first of all, it looks like a nice car, from the outside it looks modern and quality. But after having a Renault Megane Scenic, when you sit down you realise that there is a lack of comfort, and in the back there arent 3 seperate, full sized seats, but one of those bench seats. I know that it is normal to have that in a car, but as I say, after the Renault it just seams to lack quality inside. It guzzles up fuel really badly though! I was costing £5 a day just on school runs, even though the school is about 1 mile away from my house! I can do around 50mpg on a long run. The overall visability of the Meriva is good, but there is a bad blind spot that irritated me! The back seats can be moved around to create more space in either the back of the car or in the boot. They also fold flat to give you great space if you are transporting something huge! Overall the car is pretty much average, and is ok for someone who isn’t bothered about comfort or some of those extra details found in other cars.
It looks good, it has got reasonable space inside. It does drive well and has a typical vauxhall engine, which generally it of good quality. It is safe, it is reliable and its most importantly practical. It also has good steering. Its got space, and the basic things a car needs, if that is what you are looking for then the meriva is for you. Personally, I prefer cars with more gadgets and with a bit more comfort. It is basically an A to B car but I suppose it just works that way! Also, if it did have all these extra features, it wouldn’t have such good value!
As I have said, I like the more comfortable car that the Meriva just lacks and with all the black, non-colour coded plastic on the interior, it feels like an old car. I just feel that little things like this could be improved to overall improve the car, its simple!

Bought this car 3 years ago. Great value and so useful for family use. 5 door hatch back. Quite powerful engine, good enough for a medium family to use. Comfortable inside. No complicated facility. Easy to start.
5 door hatch back. Can load quite a lot stuff. Comfortable seats. No useless stuff fitted inside the car. Strong and good quality engine.
If has backward camera will be good. Had to fit cd ourself which didnt come with the car. Front and back bumper should fitted lower. A sky window inside would be good.

I am very happy with my Meriva it is an 04 plate and so far we have not had any major problems with it, It has lots of room in the back and comfortably seats 3 people with adequate leg room. The car can be made in to a two seater if required giving even more space in the back which is good for long journeys.
Likewise the front is spacious, the drivers seat moves up and down which is good if you are tall, there is also plenty of leg room and heigh room for the passenger. The boot is big we have been on camping holidays with this car and easily fitted all our gear into it.
The look of the car is great, although a mini people carrier its quite nippy and nice to be slightly higher than other cars on the road.
Has to be the seating, very spacious and also the ability this car has to put all the seats flat, the seating is very clever and it makes trips to the tip easier and also collecting furniture easily fits into the back.
The drivers window, slight blind spot when going round bens, the window bar blocks vision very slightly.

The 2004 Meriva is an excellent small family car, and it just what we need for our family of four on those long trips back up north, with its adjustable seating and seperate volume controls, so the kids can listen to a CD whilst we are happy with the radio. Good fuel economy, can get over four hundred miles on one tank.
Intechangeable seating/luggage space, slick design and comfort and leg room. Excellent idea of the seperate volume control.
Remove the front window supports it can create a horrible blind spot for the driver whilst travelling.

I drive the Vaxuhall Meirva Special Edition, This is the next Vauxhall down from the 7 seater Zafira. This is 5 seater vehicle which comes in an 1.4 engine, in an elegant design with colour coded trims, privacy glass and alloys wheels. In comparison to a standard car the driving position is higher and more upright great for me as I have back problems. Ideal for mums or elderely for getting in and out of. I have the 1.4 engine which I must say is nippy but yet very good on fuel.
I like the fact the the rear seats fold down to create the space of a mini van, ideal for transport any bulking. So need to have a van. You a great looking car.
Common faults on this car,i s the cv boot, track road ends and anti roll bar bushes, so be sure to check these out.

Very matter of fact car with lots of room for both passengers and freight. Could be construed as an older persons car but mine has certainly received some admiring looks, particularly when the Easytronic comes into use! That can be a godsend in awkward situations. Smooth ride and reasonable all round vision.
Very easy to get in and out of, seat height being at an excellent level. The rear seat adjustments are well thought out giving many options. 3 or 2 in the back leaving room for long or large pieces of luggage, and the boot area is ideal for the rubbish run, not that I get the vehicle dirty! Aircon, demist etc very efficient.
Possibly the front vision could be improved in so far as the side forward stanchions can get in the way, but easy to adjust to that. Very, very minor detail but I would like to hear a stronger horn than the slightly weak version fitted.

Good all round performer. Very economical diesel and spacious MPV. Lots of useful storage areas. 1.7 responsive engine. Would definitely consider buying this model again. Good all round visibility and plenty of rear leg room.
Storage areas, CD player, combination of how the seats fold down. Twin sliding and tilt sunroofs are a great feature.
Hard to suggest how this car can be improved. Perhaps the main area could the drivers side windows as occasionally they obscure vision.
There are many practical reasons to leasing a car rather than buying one. Car leasing offers lower monthly payments, lower initial deposit, road tax and breakdown recovery. You also have the opportunity to drive a new car every two or three years and all vehicles include the standard manufacturer’s warranty.
Our leasing deals are powered by Nationwide Vehicle Contracts.
