VW Beetle Cabriolet

Review

At a time when I was driving company cars, I jumped at the chance to buy a new VW Beetle Cabriolet from the dealership I was working for, it has always been a dream car for me and when I got it I was not dissapointed. Although a little sluggish with the 1.6 due to the heavy lump of extra bodywork compared to the Golf it was acceptable as most of the time was spent cruising with the top down anyway. The electric roof was simplicity itself to use and raised and lowered the roof quickly and quietly. Space in the front was more than acceptable although headroom at the back was an issue if you had adults in the back with the roof up. Overall it should have been a car to hold onto for a number of years but when our 3rd child was born we could not cope with only 4 seats and a boot the size of my wifes handbag, it had to go to my dismay.

Favourite Features

The original Beetle colour, pale blue. (Aquarius) to match my mums Beetle that I was destined to learn to drive in until it rusted to death just before my 17th Birthday. The whole stance and look of the vehicle when it has the top down is pure art and will always be iconic and desired by enthusiasts like me.

Suggested Improvements

Make the rear larger and more comfortable for passengers, even if it only space for a lap strap in the centre of the rear seat instead of two individual bucket style seats it would have meant I could have kept hold of the car after the baby was born and the 5 of us could have used it. The boot of the car was reasonably large but accessed by a ridiculously small boot lid that need all sorts of manouvering to get slightly larger items in, so a larger boot lid would be a massive improvement.

Car Leasing vs Buying

Car Leasing Video DemoThere are many practical reasons to leasing a car rather than buying one. Car leasing offers lower monthly payments, lower initial deposit, road tax and breakdown recovery. You also have the opportunity to drive a new car every two or three years and all vehicles include the standard manufacturer’s warranty.

Our leasing deals are powered by Nationwide Vehicle Contracts.
