Dodge is an American based company originally founded by two brothers in Detroit. Before they began manufacturing cars the brothers business involved supplying engine components to the US motor industry. Dodge was first established in 1900 and since then the company has grown to become one of America’s largest car brands, most famously recognised for the Dodge Charger, a muscle car first built in the 1960’s and recently relaunched in 2006. In recent years the brands biggest proportion of new car sales were for it’s range of Sport Utility Vehicles and Trucks to the US domestic market.
Dodge cars are now manufactured and marketed by Chrysler LLC, part of the Chrysler Group empire which supplies vehicles worldwide to over 60 different countries. In 2006 the company reestablished itself within the European market and built a small franchised dealer network in the UK.
To date there are four vehicles available for the UK market. A family saloon called the Dodge Avenger, a Ford Focus sized hatchback called the Dodge Caliber, and the bold and aggressive four wheel drive Dodge Nitro SUV which shares the same platform and body as the Jeep Cherokee. In 2008 the Dodge Journey people carrier went on sale in the UK.
