Fiat was founded in Turin, Italy in July 1899, establishing itself as one of the worlds most famous brand, especially in Europe and its native Italy. Other marques within the Fiat groupe are Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo and Abarth.
Fiat cars have won the prestigious European Car of the Year award more times than any othe motor manufacturer, winning 12 times in the 40 years the award has been presented. In 2008 the new Fiat Nuova 500, a modern update of the original 500 won the award. Previous winning vehicles still in production are the Fiat Panda, Bravo and Grande Punto.
Fiats current car range is dominated by small city type cars such as the Panda, Idea, 500 and Grande Punto. The only family size vehicles available to the UK market are the Fiat Bravo, a family sized 5 door hatchback, a mid size four wheel drive called the Siedici.
