The all-new Fiat 500 was first introduced in March 2007, exactly 50 years after the first Fiat 500 was presented. The design of the new Fiat 500 is based on the 2004 Fiat Trepiuno concept. The car features a distinctive retro-look just like the Volkswagen New Beetle and BMW MINI but is substantially cheaper than its rival models. The new 2009 model boasts itself as a ‘small car packed with all the quality found in cars twice its size’.
The Fiat 500 prides itself on being uniquely individual. There are a wheel-spinning 500,000 ways to personalise the Fiat 500, so the chances are they’ll never be another one exactly the same. Pick your engine and trim level and then personalise the car to suit you. There are 12 body colours to choose from, each with 500 stunning looks. There’s a choice of nine sets of wheels, seven alloy designs, including tasty 16 inchers, or the 15’’ sports alloys. And there’s also a heap of special extras including slick chrome bumper protection to fragrance diffusers and chequered flag roof graphics to Italian flag side stripe graphics.
There are three powerful yet economic engines available for the Fiat 500. Choose from the 69bhp 1.2 8V with its rewarding 55.4mpg, the superb performance of the 1.3 Multijet common-rail turbo diesel or the 100bhp 1.4 engine which is coupled with a 6 speed manual gearbox.
Trim levels include the Pop, Lounge, Start&Stop or the Sport. The Pop trim it’s the basic model with all the safety and comfort features you need without a hefty price tag. The Lounge is stylish comfortable ride that is packed with extras for a touch of luxury. The Start&Stop has advanced technology to reduce CO2 emissions and with eco:Drive as standard, it’s the greener drive. The Sport model is style with a sporty twist. Packed with bite, it’s got plenty of attitude on the road and also has additional extras.
The all-new Fiat 500 has received critical acclaim from many magazines. British-magazine Car called the new Fiat "irresistible". The Fiat 500 also received a full five star EURO NCAP crash test rating.
On the road prices for the new Fiat 500 start from £8,100.
