The Ford Fiesta has long been a favourite throughout Europe from first launch in 1976, since then over 12 million have been sold. Ford have taken the dynamic quality of the preceding model and made it much more interesting, with bolder styling, sleek new bodywork and a more comfortable and spacious ride. The new model is lighter than the old model, with lighter steering due to electronic power steering rather than the old hydraulic variety. The new Fiesta handles superbly with firm suspension whilst the lowered sports suspension on the Zetec S model creates an even sharper drive. Rivals include the Mazda 2, Volkswagen Polo, Vauxhall Corsa and the Seat Ibiza.
Ford offers the 59bhp 1.25-litre petrol motor on the lower specifications, there is also a faster 80bhp version available. A 1.4-litre engine is available in both manual and automatic while the top range Zetec S benefits from 1.6-litre engine, producing an impressive 120 PS. Diesel engines come in 1.4 and 1.6-litre TDCi units, these have been redesigned to improve response, emissions and economy. The new ECOnetic model offers the new 1.6 90PS engine with CO2 emissions of just 98g/km, this makes it Road Tax exempt and the lowest CO2 5 seater on the road.
Trim levels start with the budget busting Studio, Style, Style + which features the smart quickclear windscreen and manual air conditioning, the Zetec has extra features to enhance the sporty look, including 15” Alloys, the Econetic with it’s Tax exempt engine and lowered sports suspension , the ultra sporty Zetec S with lowered sports suspension and sports seats and the sumtuous Titanium with automatic wipers, headlights and an array of technical equipment normally reserved for bigger cars.
