The Ford Galaxy was originally released in 1992 as a joint venture between Ford and Volkswagen, it was sold by Volkswagen as the Sharan and by Seat as the Alhambra. After a redesign in 2000 the Ford Galaxy removed itself from its competitors and in 2006 the third generation Galaxy was introduced along side the S –Max. The new Galaxy is bigger than the previous model, it has up to 24 storage compartments and can comfortably seat 7 adults. Built for comfort both 1st and 2nd row seats slide and recline, the third row can be raised and collapsed within the boot creating and enormous boot space. The smooth suspension makes for an enjoyable ride over long distances. Rivals include the Renault Espace, the Peugeot 807 and the Chrysler Grand Voyager.
Ford offers the 2.0 143 PS and the powerful 2.3 161 PS petrol units. The diesel engines start from the 1.8Tdci 100 PS up to the magnificent 2.2TDci 175 PS engine, the 2.0TDCi and 2.2TDCI have the option of transient overboost to give extra power when overtaking. For the green minded Ford offer Flexifuel engines which reduce CO2 emissions substantially by running on bioethanol E85 or normal unleaded petrol.
Trim levels start at the base model Edge with the Fold Flat System seats and Air conditioning, the Zetec adds more comfort with bigger alloys and dual zone electric automatic temperature control and the luxurious Ghia offers the ultimate in comfort with standard features such as driver's seat power lumbar adjustment, Sony DAB CD audio system, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers and cruise control.
