The Ford Mondeo was originally launched in January 1993 to replace the Sierra, its first major facelift was in October 1996 and was improved again in 1998, the MK3 third generation model was launched in October 2000 with the 4th Generation and current model developed with Volvo released in May 2007 earning the title of “Car of the Year” by Top Gear in 2007 and “Best Family Car” and “Best Estate Car” for the second year running at What Car? Car of the Year awards 2009. The exterior syle is understated and shaped by Ford Kinetic design whereas the interior has a quality, futuristic feel. The Estate model boasts a large load area of 554 litres with a removable boot floor to help keep it clean. The light steering and responsive breaking makes it an excellent drive even with the heaviest of loads . Ford offer a comprehensive range of diesel engines starting from the 1.8-litre Duratorq TDCi (100 PS) up to the powerful 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi (175 PS). Some diesel engines are designed with Coated diesel particulate filter (C-DPF). For petrol fans the engines start from1.6-litre Duratec (110 PS) up to the 2.5-litre Duratec (220 PS). Ford also have the environmentally friendly options of the 1.8-litre 5-speed ECOnetic which offers low CO2 emissions and the new 2.0-litre 6-speed available from February 2009 only emits 139g/km. The Mondeo offers both 5 and 6 speed manual and 6 speed Automatic transmissions.
Trim levels start at the far from basic Edge with Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Bluetooth and Cruise Control as standard, to the Zetec with 16” Alloys and Front Fog Lights. The Environmentally friendly ECOnetic, the Ghia, Titanium and top of the range Titanium X with standard features such as Alcantara/ Leather interior, heated seats, Front and Rear Parking Sensors and a whole array of standard options.
