First launched in 2006, the Ford S-MAX is an MPV/saloon produced by the Ford Motor Company for the European market. It is intended to be sporty like a sedan and spacious like an MPV. Despite fierce competition from rivals such as the Citroen Picasso, Mercedes A Class and the Skoda Roomster, the S-MAX has received many positive reviews and awards and was voted European Car of the Year 2007.
The sleek, sports coupe-like profile of the S-MAX it was sets it apart from other people carriers. Its jewel-like headlights and sporty alloy wheels make it one of the most stylish and contemporary vehicles on the road and the spacious, versatile interior also means you can take six friends off for the day, or take the family away with enough equipment to fill an entire weekend. The latest S-MAX is packed with a host of practical features such as the Dual Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (DEATC), Solar Reflect Windscreen and Ford’s Quickclear Heated Windscreen.
There is a wide range of engines to choose from in the new Ford S-MAX. The diesel engines range from the 1.8-litre Duratorq TDCi (125 PS) and culminate in the awesome 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi (175 PS) – currently the largest and most powerful diesel engine available in any of Ford’s cars. If you prefer petrol, the range starts with the 2.0-litre Duratec (145 PS) right up to the mighty 2.5-litre Duratec (220 PS). Ford also offer their Flexifuel engines in the S-MAX, which offer a substantial reduction in CO2 emissions by running on bioethanol E85 or normal unleaded petrol – or any mixture of the two. The S-MAX comes with five or six-speed manual gearboxes, or a six-speed automatic.
Trim levels include the Edge, Zetec and Titanium. The Egde offers 16” alloy wheels, leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear knob and sport-style seats with driver’s manual adjustable lumbar support. The Titanium trim includes 17” 5-spoke alloy wheels, Sony CD DAB audio system, front and rear parking sensors and privacy glass.
