Jaguar XK Convertible

Debuted in 1996 and now in its second generation, the XK grand-tourer is the first 8-cylinder vehicle that Jaguar produced. It replaces the XJS, with considerable changes to the platform and an appearance that is contemporary and dramatic, including a 1961 Jaguar E-Type inspired grille. The interior is elegant and luxurious and hosts an intuitive control layout. The XK´s unique aluminium bodyshell is light and remarkably rigid, giving exceptional performance and handling, as well as improved fuel economy. The convertible is 48% more rigid yet 140kg lighter than its predecessor. The triple-layer roof can be lowered or raised automatically in less than 18 seconds and delivers superb insulation from both weather and noise. It stows discretely beneath a flush-fitting aluminium tonneau cover. It won the respected Top Gear magazine "GT of the Year" and "Car of the Year" awards in 2006.

The XK is powered by the latest generation of Jaguar´s engine, the highly acclaimed AJ-V8 4.2-litre naturally aspirated V8, also available as a 4.2-litre supercharged V8 ‘XKR’ version. Sequential shift 6-speed ZF transmission provides the choice of fully automatic or paddle-shift manual gear changes on both models. The V8’s new fuel-injection technology, continuously variable valve timing, and the use of lightweight components mean that this high performance engine combines better refinement, efficiency and delivers high levels of torque over a wide range of engine speeds. It churns out 300 hp and 310lb-ft of torque It is fully compliant with Euro 4 emissions requirements. The XKR V8 supercharged version, with variable inlet camshaft phasing, develops 420 hp and 418 lb-ft of torque and can reach 60mph in just 4.9 seconds. High levels of power and torque are available at all engine speeds.

The trim comes with a choice of finishes and the XKR adds exclusive detailing and a sportier exterior. A host of intelligent technologies feature as standard, such as CATS™ (Computer Active Technology Suspension), which continuously analyses road conditions and adjusts the suspension settings to improve the ride. Advanced safety systems including EBA, ABS, Adaptive Restraint Technology System and Roll-Over Protection system. The XK introduced a world first in pedestrian safety, the PDBS (Pedestrian Deployable Bonnet System), which senses front impact and lifts the bonnet to reduce injury from the solid engine block. This device was awarded the Engineering and Technology Award at the prestigious Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards.

An XK Coupe is also available. The main rivals include the BMW 6-Series Convertible, Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, and Porsche 911 Cabriolet.
