Unlike the traditional way convertibles are designed, the XK coupe is actually based on the convertible’s design. It was introduced in 1996, with a restyle for 2007 which gave an increased rigidity, and a more modern and sleek appearance to keep up to date with competitors. The interior is elegant and luxurious and hosts an intuitive control layout. The XK´s light aluminium bodyshell allows for exceptional acceleration, braking and handling, as well as improved fuel economy. Class-leading safety systems and generous standard features make the XK Coupe an appealing choice. The unique Jaguar XKR-S, launched in 2008, is available exclusively in Europe with only 200 models being built.
The XK is powered by the latest generation of Jaguar´s engine, the highly acclaimed AJ-V8 4.2-litre naturally aspirated V8, also available supercharged: the ‘XKR’ and the unique ‘XKR-S’. Sequential shift 6-speed ZF transmission provides the choice of fully automatic or manual paddle-shift gear changes. The V8’s new fuel-injection technology, continuously variable valve timing, and the use of lightweight components mean that this high performance engine combines better refinement, efficiency and delivers high levels of torque over a wide range of engine speeds. It churns out 300 bhp and 310lb-ft of torque It is fully compliant with Euro 4 emissions requirements. The XKR V8 supercharged version, with variable inlet camshaft phasing, develops 420 bhp and 418 lb-ft of torque and can reach 60mph in just 4.9 seconds. High levels of power and torque are available at all engine speeds. The XKR-S is the fastest production XK, and features recalibrated engine management, improved aerodynamics, unique suspension set-up, and high-performance Alcon braking system.
The XK trim comes with a choice of finishes and the XKR adds exclusive detailing and a sportier exterior. A host of intelligent technologies feature as standard, such as CATS™ (Computer Active Technology Suspension), dynamic stability control, an intelligent lighting system, and the Jaguar Smart Key System™. Advanced safety systems include EBA, ABS, Adaptive Restraint Technology System, Roll-Over Protection system and the award-winning innovative Pedestrian Deployable Bonnet System.
The XK convertible offers an alternative. The main rivals include the BMW 6-Series Coupe, Mercedes-Benz SL-Class, and Porsche 911 Coupe.
