Kia’s award-winning Ceed was launched in 2006, designed and tested primarily for the European market. Available only as a 5-door hatchback, the Ceed is neat, spacious and modern both internally and externally. Kia has received numerous awards for its 7-year manufacturers warranty, as well as winning What Diesel Car? Magazine’s ‘Best Hatchback 2007’, beating the VW Golf.
Petrol engine options are the 1.4-litre with 5-speed manual transmission or the 1.6-litre with manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. There's also a 1.6-litre diesel second-generation common rail injection engine, which is available in two power outputs – 90BHP and 115BHP. The 1.6-litre LS diesel model won Towcar Awards - Green Award 2007 for being the most environmentally friendly package. Alternatively, there is a 2.0-litre CRDi common rail injection 6-speed Sport model with 138BHP. Kia is developing a hybrid version for production in 2010.
The Ceed is available in four trim levels, the GS, LS, S, and Sport. Standard features include audio CD with MP3 player, tinted glass, air-conditioning, cooled glove box, electric windows, ABS braking with EBD, front, side and curtain airbags and 60:40 split folding rear seats. It also received a 5-star Euro NCAP crash test rating, the highest rating achievable.
