Produced since 2003, with an upgrade in 2006, the Sorento SUV combines cross-country capability, stylish design and modest price. The vehicle chassis is based on a ladder frame design to provide rigidity and it can tow up to 3500 kg. Low-ratio gearing allows the Sorento to handle tougher off-road terrain, and trims are available with either Electric Shift Transfer part-time 4WD (XE model) or Active Torque Transfer full-time 4WD (XS/XT/Titan).
Engine options are the 3.3-litre V6 petrol engine or 2.5-litre diesel engine that features common rail direct injection. Transmission options are 5-speed manual and 5-speed automatic for diesel models.
Trims available are XE, XS, XT, and Titan. Kia are generous with their standard features, with all models including air-conditioning, an 8-speaker CD audio sound system with MP3 player, 60:40 split folding rear seats, underfloor storage, front and rear electric windows, an independent flip-up tailgate window, multiple airbags and mud flaps!. Range-topping XT and Titan also have electric tilt and sliding sunroof, dual automatic climate control, and an electronic stability programme (ESP) to help control skids and increase safety.
