The Mazda 6 Saloon model was launched with the estate and hatchback model in 2007, replacing the well regarded first generation model from 2002. The new model features a stylish new look which has been praised for its coupe like roof line and sleek bodywork which make it one of the most aerodynamic vehicles in its class. The new model follows Mazda's concepts from the MX-5 of making the car as lightweight as possible to enhance the driving experience, there is also the added benefit of improved fuel economy and lower CO2 levels meaning it is less expensive to tax compared to the previous model. Mazda offer the 6 Saloon with two petrol engine variants, the 2.0 litre MZR and 2.5 MZR with 170 PS. The efficient common rail turbo diesel engine options all share the 2.2 litre MZR-CD unit and come with 163 or 185 PS. Transmission options available include the six-speed manual and five-speed automatic.
Trim levels start with the well equipped TS model, which comes fitted with 16 inch alloy wheels, cruise control, CD Player, front and rear electric windows, electric mirrors and more. The TS2 model includes extras such as 17 inch alloy wheels, integrated Bluetooth system, front fog lights and auto dimming rear view mirror. Top of the range is the Sport Luxury (SL) model which features 18 inch alloy wheels, full leather seats with power adjustable heated front seats, BOSE audio system, smart keyless entry and much more.
