First launched in 2006, the Mercedes-Benz GL-Class is a full-size crossover SUV originally designed for the American market. Despite strong competition from rivals such as the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and the Volvo XC90, the Mercedes GL-Class has proved a popular choice in the British market and in 2007, the GL 450 model won the Motor Trend Sport/Utility of the Year award.
With its large dimensions, long wheelbase and generous ground clearance, the new generation GL-Class cuts an imposing figure. Its eye-catching details include new fog lamps and daytime driving lamps in chrome-look surrounds - or distinctive LED daytime running lights if the Sports Styling Package is specified.
Inside, the GL Class boasts a selection of top-quality materials including a choice of three seating upholsteries – Artico artificial leather, leather and nappa leather. All have a grained finish and are available in Black, Alpaca Grey and Cashmere Beige. All are also finished with piping and top-stitching – a perfect example of the superb attention-to-detail the GL-Class boasts throughout.
Under the bonnet, the GL Class has a choice of three formidable engines including the GL 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, which incorporates an array of smart energy saving measures without compromising performance. The tyres feature a special tread and modified rubber compound to reduce rolling resistance and the electrohydraulic on-demand power steering helps prevent unnecessary fuel consumption. The result is an impressively efficient SUV with sub-255 g/km CO2 emissions and combined fuel economy of 29.4 mpg.
Trim levels include the GL 350 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, GL 450 CDI and the GL 500. The GL 500 trim boasts bi-xenon headlamps, LED daytime running lights, heated rear seats and luxury automatic climate control.
