Vauxhall has today joined the warranty battle by introducing a lifetime warranty on all its new cars.
The aptly named Vauxhall Lifetime Warranty will apply to the first owner of any Vauxhall car registered from the 1st August 2010. The warranty covers the life of the car until it reaches 100,000 miles.
Managing Director of Vauxhall Motors, Duncan Aldred is naturally upbeat about the news, saying; “We are making a strong statement of confidence in the quality of our products and a clear intent to provide the very best customer service in the UK.” The warranty covers powertrain, steering system, brake system and electrical equipment.
This is yet another example of the Warranty Wars currently being fought on the manufacturer battlefield. Chevrolet recently unveiled their '5 Year Promise', which adds free servicing and MOTs to the standard warranty package. Kia continues to run their 7 year warranty across the range, whilst Hyundai offer their 5 year package. Like Vauxhall, both Kia and Hyundai limit the warranty to 100,000 miles.
There's no end in sight for the Warranty War with no manufacturer any showing signs of surrender. But with the quality and reliability of news cars getting better every year, just how valuable is the long term warranty? Time will tell.

There are many practical reasons to leasing a car rather than buying one. Car leasing offers lower monthly payments, lower initial deposit, road tax and breakdown recovery. You also have the opportunity to drive a new car every two or three years and all vehicles include the standard manufacturer’s warranty.
Our leasing deals are powered by Nationwide Vehicle Contracts.
