The Mazda MX-5 has been named ‘Best Roadster’ at this years Auto Express New Car Awards for the fifth time.
The Mazda MX-5 beat rivals BMW Z4 and Porsche Boxster to claim the prestigious award for the fifth consecutive year. Judges praised the striking roadster for its exhilarating drive dynamics and attractive price tag.
Since its launch in 1989, the Mazda MX-5 has won the hearts of the public and critics alike, quickly becoming the world’s best selling two-seater roadster. The latest MX-5 range received a facelift in 2009 and now features over 10 models, available in traditional soft-top or roadster coupe form.
“More than two decades after the original first hit the road, the Japanese drop-top is still delivering wind-in-the-hair thrills to buyers on a budget. The Mazda combines sharp looks, engaging rear-wheel drive handling and attractive prices” commented the judges.
“The petrol engines provide just enough pace, and it’s the MX-5’s agile and entertaining chassis that shines brightest. With prices starting at £17,245 it’s easy to see why the Mazda is the world’s best selling roadster.”
The Mazda MX-5 won praise from Auto Express as a used car winning the ‘Best Convertible’ award from 2005 to 2008. Other Mazda models gaining recognition were the Mazda3 which was runner-up in the ‘Best Compact Family Car’ section, - pipped to the post by the Volkswagen Golf - and the Mazda2 which was commended in the ‘Best Supermini’ class.

There are many practical reasons to leasing a car rather than buying one. Car leasing offers lower monthly payments, lower initial deposit, road tax and breakdown recovery. You also have the opportunity to drive a new car every two or three years and all vehicles include the standard manufacturer’s warranty.
Our leasing deals are powered by Nationwide Vehicle Contracts.
