Lewis Hamilton is stripped of the podium place he was awarded at the Australian Grand Prix.
Last weekend as Jensen Button and his Brawn GP team were taking the world of motor sports by storm, Champion Lewis Hamilton was struggling for pace. Starting at the back of the grid he valiantly fought his way through the pack in a car he clearly wasn’t happy with.
As the safety car came out with three laps to go following an incident with third and fourth car Lewis found himself now in third place. Under the yellow flag Jarno Trulli went past Lewis and took that final spot on the podium.
After the race Trulli was penalised for his actions and Lewis was awarded the points.
Now there has been another post race twist. After reviewing evidence, race officials have deemed that the evidence given by Lewis Hamilton regarding the incident was misleading.
Reading the transcript of the team radio it indicates Lewis was given instructions to let the Toyota pass, whereas he had initially not declared this command.
The FIA stated that:
“The Stewards, having learned about the radio exchanges and the Media interview, felt strongly that they had been misled by the driver and his Team Manager which led to Jarno Trulli being unfairly penalised and Lewis Hamilton gaining third place.”
Despite not having the car that won the championship there were signs of the driving that won the championship but after this whole debacle it was all wasted. Hopefully things for McLaren will take a more positive turn in Malaysia.

There are many practical reasons to leasing a car rather than buying one. Car leasing offers lower monthly payments, lower initial deposit, road tax and breakdown recovery. You also have the opportunity to drive a new car every two or three years and all vehicles include the standard manufacturer’s warranty.
Our leasing deals are powered by Nationwide Vehicle Contracts.
