McLaren’s Team Principal Ron Dennis has stepped down after 28 years in charge of the team.
Ron Dennis, 61, became team principal for McLaren back in 1981 before current McLaren driver and World Champion, Lewis Hamilton, was even born.
After guding the team through years of success he has stepped down and handed the job to Martin Whitmarsh. The team are no strangers to controversy and are currently embroiled in a scandal over misleading race stewards.
Sporting Director Dave Ryan urged Lewis Hamilton to give misleading evidence over an incident involving the safety car. After an emotional apology Mr Ryan was sacked from the team.
Dennis will still remain involved with the team but only as an opinion. He will remain with the company who has interests outside of Formula 1 but his exact role will be confirmed within the next few days.
Many will be sad to see him go but with McLaren struggling in the manufacturers championship it may be time for new leadership to take the reigns.

There are many practical reasons to leasing a car rather than buying one. Car leasing offers lower monthly payments, lower initial deposit, road tax and breakdown recovery. You also have the opportunity to drive a new car every two or three years and all vehicles include the standard manufacturer’s warranty.
Our leasing deals are powered by Nationwide Vehicle Contracts.
