American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives the Tiguan a top safety rating.
The American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is the European equivalent to the EuroNCAP organisation. They test the safety of all vehicles to their stringent national standards.
In the small SUV category the market is becoming increasingly competitive so Volkswagen was pleased to announce some positive news. The IIHS revealed that the Tiguan was rated one of the top small SUVs in the new roof strength test. Roof strength is incredibly important in protecting the vehicle occupants should the vehicle roll over.
The IIHS rated the Tiguan as ‘good’ which requires the roof to be more than twice the strength of the minimum federal safety standards.
“We focus on safety technologies that help to prevent accidents and protect occupants, as seen by Volkswagen being one of the few manufacturers to offer electronic stability control as standard across our entire model line-up, and this recognition by the IIHS is further validation of that” said Mark Barnes, COO, Volkwagen of America.
“We’re proud of recognition the Tiguan has received from the IIHS, we know that this is an exceptional SUV, offering performance, functionality and safety”
Volkswagen was also pleased to pick up the IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK award for 2008 for the Tiguan. This annual award recognises those vehicles that excel in front, side and rear crash tests.

There are many practical reasons to leasing a car rather than buying one. Car leasing offers lower monthly payments, lower initial deposit, road tax and breakdown recovery. You also have the opportunity to drive a new car every two or three years and all vehicles include the standard manufacturer’s warranty.
Our leasing deals are powered by Nationwide Vehicle Contracts.
