The car business is indeed complex, being made up of many ostensibly separate limbs. Within such a complex environment, educating children about vehicles and how they function provides them practical as well as life altering knowledge. Taking up this call to learn and develop interesting skills within the sector, Wilmington Grammar School has begin a rather impressive car building project that will explore everything to do with vehicles.
Nearly twenty students from the institution in Kent will be building a Caterham Seven sports car during a 24 school week period. The iconic British vehicle will come in kit form and will be part of the ‘seven for schools’ initiative, an extra-curricular project that will engage and educate children.
Students between the ages of 11 and 19 took part in an X-Factor-style audition in order to be part of the exciting project. They had to prove why exactly they should be chosen to work on the project embodying elements of physics, business studies as well as Maths.
The project hopes to pragmatically apply what they’ve learned in class into a real world setting. Two former students, now studying Engineering, recommended that the school take part in the Caterham Sevens for School initiative after they gained employment at a Dartford factory.
A rather exciting initiative, Mr Andy Williamson, the Headteacher of the school, said that the institution had always been trying to encourage students to enrich their learning experiences. Indeed, such a creative opportunity does not come around very often. Allowing for students to become specialists in engineering, the initiative is not something to be missed. He noted that this project is very important as competition for work is becoming increasingly treacherous in the present day job market.
The Sales and Marketing Manager at Caterham Car noted that creating a passion for the subject is an important part of a child’s education. If children like these strive to become engineers or car specialists, this opportunity will give them a practical taste of what to expect in their future careers.
Caterham Cars noted that they will be establishing similar initiatives in another 15 schools across the UK over a period of 4 years. Such an opportunity should not be passed up. Those interested in the Sevens for Schools scheme should contact Mr Noble on 01883 333 700.

There are many practical reasons to leasing a car rather than buying one. Car leasing offers lower monthly payments, lower initial deposit, road tax and breakdown recovery. You also have the opportunity to drive a new car every two or three years and all vehicles include the standard manufacturer’s warranty.
Our leasing deals are powered by Nationwide Vehicle Contracts.
