Motorists are spending more time surfing the web for better car insurance.
The average UK motorist spends two hours searching online for a car insurance quote, according to a survey by Swinton, the UK's leading high street retailer of car insurance.
The poll of 1,000 Swinton customers, found that motorists are spending more time online looking for cheap car insurance, than they were doing this time last year.
In May 2008 drivers spent on average one and a half hours to find an insurance policy. Over recent years the length of time spent by motorists searching for a car insurance quote has dropped significantly, each year reducing by between five and fifteen minutes. This is the first time in five years that has seen this trend change, and Swinton is attributing the turn around on financial pressures caused by the recession.
Steve Chelton, Insurer Development Manager, for Swinton said:
"The increased use and availability of the internet has had a massive impact on the car insurance industry. Motorists can now get a quote anytime, anywhere and in a short amount of time."
"Despite the huge demand for car insurance quotes online, our customers still enjoy the benefits of being able to drop in to a local branch and discuss their insurance needs face to face."
"Before purchasing car insurance we would advise all users to read through the policy thoroughly and make sure it is the best cover for their circumstances."

There are many practical reasons to leasing a car rather than buying one. Car leasing offers lower monthly payments, lower initial deposit, road tax and breakdown recovery. You also have the opportunity to drive a new car every two or three years and all vehicles include the standard manufacturer’s warranty.
Our leasing deals are powered by Nationwide Vehicle Contracts.
