Ford has confirmed its plans to introduce five full-electric and hybrid models in Europe by 2013.
Speaking at the Geneva Motor Show, Derrick Kuzak, Ford's group vice president of Global Product Development, revealed that a new electric small family car, a mini MPV and a new light commercial vehicle will feature in the eco friendly range.
The first models to be launched in Europe will be zero-emission, full-electric versions of the popular Ford Focus and Ford Transit Connect.
The Focus Electric will be based on Ford's next-generation Focus model and is one of at least ten vehicles that will be developed from the company's new global C-car platform.
The Ford Transit Connect Electric is a zero-emission, pure electric-powered version of the award-winning Transit Connect light commercial vehicle and goes on sale in Europe from 2011.
Building on their success in the North American market, Ford also plan to introduce two next-generation petrol hybrid-electric vehicles and a plug-in hybrid by 2013. Further details of Ford's hybrid and plug-in hybrid models are expected to be revealed closer to launch.
John Fleming, Chairman and CEO, Ford of Europe said: "Our goal is to provide consumers with access to significant fuel economy improvements and reduced CO2 emissions to meet their functional needs and without compromising their driving experience."
The new Ford electric models are part of Ford’s global electric vehicles plan which aims to make full-electric vehicles available to everyone and will offer consumers the widest possible range of technology solutions.

There are many practical reasons to leasing a car rather than buying one. Car leasing offers lower monthly payments, lower initial deposit, road tax and breakdown recovery. You also have the opportunity to drive a new car every two or three years and all vehicles include the standard manufacturer’s warranty.
Our leasing deals are powered by Nationwide Vehicle Contracts.
