Audi throw in an engine from the A3 to make the new TT Roadster more attainable for the general public.
The new Audi TT Roadster was dramatically unveiled this year to great anticipation. There was one problem, the models they released were obviously priced a little too high for everyone to run out and buy one.
To combat this Audi took a well liked, well tested engine from an A3 and shoved it into the TT framework. Job done, a TT Roadster everyone can afford!
Not quite. The existing entry level model currently costs you £27,355 OTR and this one will set you back £23,910. Around £3,400 cheaper may not cause massive queues at your local Audi dealership but some might be tempted when they hear what they get.
The new entry level variant has the A3’s 1.8 TFSI petrol engine and will generate 160 PS between 4,500 rpm and 6,200 rpm. Its peak torque output comes even sooner, between 1,500 rpm and 4,500 rpm topping out at 250 Nm. It will go from standstill to 62 mph in 7.4 seconds and where it is possible to get this fast will reach 139 mph.
The lightweight aluminium frame allows this engine to be let loose and they make sure its full potential is realised. In the eco stakes it will do 40.9 mpg on a combined cycle and emit 159 g/km of CO2.
Audi TT owner Andrew Lee comments,
“They know when to time it right. The weather comes out and suddenly the prices drop on the Roadster models. I think there’ll be a few of these being snapped up for this summer season.”

There are many practical reasons to leasing a car rather than buying one. Car leasing offers lower monthly payments, lower initial deposit, road tax and breakdown recovery. You also have the opportunity to drive a new car every two or three years and all vehicles include the standard manufacturer’s warranty.
Our leasing deals are powered by Nationwide Vehicle Contracts.
