The new Porsche Boxster has been slimmed down to give it more driver focus but at what cost?
This brand new Porsche Boxster Spyder is most certainly not for the poser or poncy nouveau riche.
The German engineers have been ruthless with the weight saving measures and have stripped out most comforts from inside. Dropping down from the lowest 1,335 kg, to the new low of 1,275 kg, it is the lightest in a Porsche garage.
you shave that much from an already lightweight sports car you need to ask yourself questions. Apparently they begrudgingly put in a cloth hood over the manual gear box, but only because it would have been a safety hazard not too.
With less weight the car also gets more power than a Boxster S clocking in at 320 bhp. Lowered suspension and a limited slip differential makes for excellent cornering enjoyment.
So with no new technology, less actual car than the standard model and the threat of blowing away in a stiff breeze; how will that affect the price?
Well you’ll actually pay more for this than the Boxster S as it comes in at £44,643, but it’s still somewhat cheaper (£18k) than the popular 911.
But when you can do 0 – 62 mph in 4.6 seconds and get to 166 mph I’m sure you’ll forget all about the 911 behind you.

There are many practical reasons to leasing a car rather than buying one. Car leasing offers lower monthly payments, lower initial deposit, road tax and breakdown recovery. You also have the opportunity to drive a new car every two or three years and all vehicles include the standard manufacturer’s warranty.
Our leasing deals are powered by Nationwide Vehicle Contracts.
