The Nissan X Trail is a 5 door mid size sports utility vehicle launched by Japanese car manufacturer Nissan in 2001. Around this time a host of manufacturers entired the compact suv market in response to growing consumer command. Similar cars include the Toyota Rav 4, Honda CRV, Landrover Freelander and Ford Kuga.

In 2007 the second generation X Trail went on sale with three grades, a choice of four engines and two transmissions. Two petrol engines are a 2.0 litre 140bhp unit and a 2.5 litre 165bhp unit. The majority of car sales will be the two diesel engine, both 2.0 litres tuned to either 150bhp or 173bhp. As well as impressive fuel economy and low CO2 emissions, both diesel vehicles produce 320Nm and 360Nm of torque respectively.
Trim grades start with the Trek version followed by the Sport and lastly the range topping Aventura model. The Sport and Aventura are also available with an Extreme and or Explorer pack offering enhanced styling from the Extreme and Dvd Satellite Navigation on the Explorer versions.
