The 308 SW was launched in 2008 and is based on the 307 hatchback model and follows on from the successful 307 SW model which has been around since 2001. It is the only estate car available in the UK with seven seats. There is an opening rear window for convenient access without having to open the full boot hatch, it also gives the option of accommodating long loads which stretch out the back. The 308SW features a highly versatile interior, all five of the rear seats can be removed and the middle row of seats all individually slide. There is also a panoramic sunroof which stretches back over the rear passengers and there is a full length electric blind. Main rivals include the Mazda 5, Vauxhall Zafira and Citroen Picasso.
There is a wide range of engines available; petrol versions start with the 1.4Vti with 95bhp, then the 1.6Vti with 110. The sporty 1.6 THP engine was developed with BMW and features a twin scroll turbo and high pressure direct injection; it is available with 140, 150 or 175bhp depending on the model chosen. The diesel engine options all use Peugeots advanced Hdi engine technology. They start with the 1.6 litre turbo diesel available as either the Hdi 90 or Hdi 110. Top of the range is the 2.0 litre Hdi 136 with 136 bhp. Transmission options available include the four-speed automatic and five or six-speed manual gearbox.
Trim levels start with the base level S, then the SR and Sport. The Sport model features 17 inch alloy wheels, speed sensitive power steering and remote central locking on its extensive equipment list. Top of the range is the SE model equipped with 16 inch alloy wheels, tinted rear windows, panoramic glass roof, cruise control, 7 seats and much more.
