Peugeot launched their line of 2 door coupe models with the Pininfarina styled 406 Coupe in 1997. The latest 407 coupe was released in 2006 and recreates the stunning looks with its sleek, stylish body. Despite the sporty looks, the 407 Coupe surprisingly spacious inside, it is fitted with four decent sized seats and a large practical boot. Its practicality is further enhanced with the split folding rear seat for even more loading space. The 407 Coupe comes in to its own as a grand tourer, with its smooth efficient engines and comfortable interior it can eat up motorway miles with ease. There are even optional laminated side windows available which can reduce exterior noise. Like the test of the 407 range, the Coupe model achieved a 5 star Euro NCAP crash safety rating. Rivals include the Mazda RX-8, BMW 3-Series and Renault Laguna Coupe.
The 407 Coupe is available with a range of sporty modern engines. Diesel engine options start with the turbocharged 2.0 litre Hdi with 136 bhp. Peugeot's advanced HDI engines use the latest common rail diesel technology to maximize economy and efficiency; this particular option can achieve an impressive 48MPG. The 2.7 litre Hdi engine offers impressive performance and is capable of 0-60mph in just 8.5 seconds. This engine is only available with the six-speed automatic transmission – all other models are fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox. Petrol options start with the 2.2 litre with 163 bhp and top of the range is the 3.0 V6 with 211bhp.
All models include 17 inch alloy wheels, Bi-zone digital air conditioning, cruise control, rear parking aid, 9-setting variable electronic suspension, tyre pressure sensors RD4 radio/cd player with MP3 capability, Bluetooth handsfree telephone kit and much more. The Multimedia option replaces the radio/cd player and Bluetooth handsfree kit with an RT4 multimedia centre with integrated satellite navigation.
