The Boxster is a mid-engined roadster and was released in 1997 as the new entry level model. Porsche released a brand new Boxster in 2005 with 80% new parts. Being mid-engined, the weight distribution is near perfect which gives a superb and rewarding driving experience, complemented by the smooth flat-six boxer engine. The Boxster is fitted with an electrically operated hood which can be opened in just 12 seconds whilst moving at up to 30mph. Features that can be included on the Boxster include Ceramic Brakes, Bi-Xenon headlights, Active suspension management and Stability management which work to ensure a sporty and safe ride. Competitors for this model include the Audi TT Roadster, Nissan 350Z Roadster and Mercedes-Benz SLK.
The Boxster comes in two model variants, the standard model Boxster and sportier Boxster S. The standard Boxster features a 2.7 litre flat-six engine with 245 PS and 17 inch alloy wheels. The Boxster S features a 3.4 litre flat-six with direct injection with 295 PS, it is fitted with 18 inch alloy wheels, air conditioning and electric windows.
