The Cayenne is Porsche's first 4x4 SUV model they have produced; it was released in 2002 and restyled in 2007. Porsche aimed to create the new benchmark for SUV's with the Cayenne and they have certainly created the one of the best prestige 4x4's on the market. Unlike other SUV's, the Cayenne actually does have off-road abilities and is fitted with an array of off-roading equipment. It has an electrically variable and lockable rear differential, high strength rock rails, hill control and low-range gearbox. The Cayenne's closest rivals are the BMW X6, Land Rover Range Rover Sport and the Audi Q7.

Air Suspension can be fitted to all models, which self-levels the car and maintains a constant ground clearance front and rear, it can also be raised for off-roading and lowered for loading. The Cayenne has a huge versatile boot with fold flat 60/40 split rear seats, roof rails, a load space management system and tow-bar are all factory fit options.

Engine's available are the 3.6 litre V6 with 290 BHP in the base level Cayenne and the 4.5 litre V8 fitted to the Cayenne S model which produces 385 BHP. Transmissions available are the six-speed manual or six-speed Tiptronic S automatic gearbox.
