The Scenic range was first launched in 1997 and in doing so Renault created a whole new market of compact MPV's which many manufacturers have now copied. The Scenic was a surprise success for Renault, selling many more than estimated and winning the European Car of the Year award for 1996. The second generation was launched in 2003 and uses all of Renaults MPV experience to keep it ahead of rivals like the Ford C-Max Citroen Xsara Picasso and Toyota Corrola Verso. The Scenic seats five adults and offers all the practicality of a large MPV with a more affordable price and manageable size. The novel electric handbrake mounted on the dash allows the Scenic to have a practical flat floor, it versatility doesn't end there as it is packed with clever storage solutions throughout. It can even be fitted with an optional folding rear screen for easy access to the boot. It is one of the safest vehicles in its class and has achieved a five-star Euro NCAP rating.
Petrol engine options start with the 1.4 litre 16v unit, next up is the 1.6 VVT and the powerful 2.0 VVT. Diesel engines start with the1.5 dCi with 86 or 106 PS, then the1.9 dCi 130 and at the top is the 2.0 dCi 150. Transmission options available include the five and six-speed manual or the four-speed automatic.
Trim levels start with the Conquest fitted with ESP and ASR traction control, the Dynamique is next with 16 inch alloy wheels, cruise control and Automatic Parking brake. Top of the range is the Dynamique S which adds keyless entry, climate control and automatic headlights.
