The new 9-3 Sport Wagon was released in 2005, it shows off Saab's attention to detail and strong Scandinavian design with its seamlessly integrated rear bodywork putting some estate cars to shame. The 9-3 Sport Wagon is fitted with features like Saab's ReAxs which steers the rear wheels in accordance with the front to aid safe driving and sharpen up the steering. It also features active head restraints to help reduce whiplash injuries and Saab's night panel function to dim all unessential cabin lighting at the touch of a button to ease eye strain during dark driving conditions. The 9-3 Sport Wagon competes with rivals such as the Audi A4 Avant, BMW 3-Series Touring and Volvo V50.
The engine range starts with the petrol 1.8i, then the turbo versions; the 1.8t, 2.0t with 175 PS, 2.0T with 210 PS and powerful 2.8 litre V6 Turbo with 280 PS. The diesel engines are the turbocharged 1.9TiD and the twin turbo 1.9TTiD with 180 PS. Saab also offer Biopower version which can run on petrol and BioEthanol E85, these are the 1.8t Biopower and 2.0t Biopower. Select models have Saab's XWD system which drives all wheels for added grip and safer driving. Transmissions available are the five or six speed manual and the five or six speed Sentronic automatic.
Trim levels start with the base level Airflow which includes 16 inch alloy wheels, handsfree phone connectivity with phone and audio steering wheel controls. The next level is the Linear SE, then the Vector Sport and the top of the range is the Aero model with 18 inch alloy wheels, Bi-Xenon auto-levelling headlamps and leather sports seats.
