The Fabia is Skoda's entry into the supermini market, it was first launched in 1999 and became an instant success due to its competitive price and Volkswagen developed mechanical parts. The new Skoda Fabia was launched in 2007 and is based on the popular VW Polo platform, it competes with other cars such as the Vauxhall Corsa, Toyota Yaris and Renault Clio.
The new Fabia boasts class leading boot space at 300 litres, electric front windows and MP3 socket on all models. Other options available are air conditioning, cruise control, electric sunroof, fog lamps and parking sensors. The Fabia achieved a four-star Euro NCAP crash safety rating and is fitted with ABS and front and side airbags as standard on all models, with ESP and curtain airbags also available for a complete safety package.
There are eight engine options available, starting with the three cylinder 1.2 litre petrol, available with single or double overhead cam with 60 or 70BHP respectively. Other petrol engines include the four-cylinder 1.4 16v and 1.6 16v with 105BHP. Diesel engine start with the three-cylinder 1.4 litre TDI with 70 or 80BHP and the four-cylinder 1.9 TDI with 105BHP. Transmission is available as five-speed manual or as semi-automatic Tiptronic.
Trim starts with the Fabia 1, 2 and top level 3 which includes air-conditioning, cruise control and 16 inch alloy wheels. The Fabia is also available in Skoda's Greenline variant, which is designed to be eco-friendly – it is cabable of almost 70 MPG and has a CO2 output of just 109g/km.
