The Skoda Octavia takes its name from a family vehicle first made by Skoda in 1959. The name was brought back in 1999 with the launch of the new model co-developed with Volkswagen. The new MK2 Octavia was launched in 2004 and is based on the acclaimed and adaptable Volkswagen A5 platform from the Golf MK5. Said to be the UK's most satisfying car by Auto Express means that it is stiff competition for rivals such as the Volvo S40, Ford Focus and Mazda 6.
All models include air-conditioning, electric windows, electric mirrors, CD player, central locking and immobiliser fitted as standard. Other options include rain-sensing wipers, parking sensors, electric sunroof, air-conditioned glove box, active headrests and smart lights which can activate in dark conditions and 'coming home' feature that lights the way to your door.
Petrol engines start with the 1.4 16v with 80 BHP, there is also the 1.6 FSI, 1.8 TSI, 2.0 FSI and turbocharged 2.0 litre T FSI with 200 BHP. Diesel engines offered are the 1.9 TDI PD and 2.0 TDI PD and the 2.0 litre CR (Common Rail) with 170 BHP and excellent economy with low emissions. Transmission's available are five and six speed manual, six-speed auto-Tiptronic and six-speed DSG – Volkswagen's Direct-Shift Gearbox that features split second gear changes.
Trim levels start with the Classic, then the Ambiente, Elegance and luxurious Laurent & Klement. There is also Skoda's sport vRS model to choose from with features included such as vRS bodykit, vRS design sports seats, twin chrome exhausts and 17 inch alloy wheels.
