The Octavia name was brought back in 1999 for the hatchback and estate, the Octavia was then redesigned and launched in 2004. As with the hatchback Octavia, the estate is based on the same capable platform as the Volkswagen Golf MK5. The estate is even more practical though, it boasts class leading boot space, 580 litres with the rear seats up, and an amazing 1620 litres with the rear seats folded flat. It's main rivals are the Ford Focus Estate, Renault Megane Sport Tourer and Peugeot 308 SW.
As with the regular Octavia, the Estate features air-conditioning, electric windows, electric mirrors, CD player, central locking and immobiliser fitted as standard on all models. Other options include parking sensors, electric sunroof, air-conditioned glove box, active headrests, cruise control, rear centre armrest and an auto dimming rear view mirror with rain sensor.
Engine options, start with the range of VW's proven diesels include the 1.9 TDI PD, 2.0 TDI PD and the new 2.0 litre Common Rail turbo diesel with 170 BHP. The petrol variants start with the 1.6 litre FSI, 1.8 TSI and top spec 2.0 T FSI, a turbocharged engine with 200 BHP. Transmission's available are five and six speed manual, six-speed auto-Tiptronic and six-speed DSG – Volkswagen's Direct-Shift Gearbox that features split second gear changes.
Trim levels start with the base level Classic Estate, there is also the Ambiente, Elegance and Laurin & Klement with most options including leather upholstery. Skoda also offer the 200 BHP vRS estate, with sports interior, sporty vRS bodykit and 17 inch alloy wheels. A variant unique to the estate is the 4x4 model, with chunkier body side moulding, raised suspension and sump protection guard.
