The Avensis is Toyota's large family car with the first model released in 1997 and the all new second generation launched in 2003. The model received a refresh in 2006 with new bumpers and wing-mirror located side repeaters. The Avensis is spacious and luxurious, with 60/40 split rear seats providing a huge load space and comfortable leather seats on the T Spirit model. The Avensis achieved a 5-Star Euro NCAP rating thanks to its array of nine airbags including driver knee airbag and its clever crash cell which dissipates energy around the passenger compartment with minimum deformation. The Avensis competes with the likes of the Ford Mondeo, Vauxhall Insignia and Mazda 6.
Engine options start with the petrol 1.8 litre VVT-i and 2.0 litre VVT-i. Diesel engines start with the 2.0 litre D-4D capable of over 50 MPG, then there is the 2.2 litre D-4D available with either 150 or 180 PS. Transmission comes as six-speed manual or the sequential automatic.
Trim levels start with the Colour Collection Special edition model, then the T2, TR, T Spirit and T180. Models above the TR level include alloy wheels, dusk sensing headlights, touch-screen satellite navigation, electrically adjustable front seats and dual zone climate control.
