The Prius was first launched by Toyota in 2001, it is known for the hybrid propulsion system that reduces emissions and improves miles per gallon. The current model was launched in 2004 and has won multiple awards including European Car of the Year 2005. It is powered by an electric motor and four-cylinder petrol engine that make it one of the most efficient cars on the roads, it produces just 104 g/km of CO2 which makes it one of the cheapest cars to tax currently available.
Not only does the Prius offer exceptional economy, it can also comfortably seat five passengers, making it an environmentally friendly alternative to rivals like the Volkswagen Golf and Vauxhall Astra. It versatility extends to it's 60/40 split rear seats that fold flat giving a luggage capacity of 408 litres below the window line. The Prius achieved a five-star Euro NCAP crash safety rating, with advanced vehicle stability control (VSC+), tough crash cell structure and eight SRS airbags.
The Prius is only available with one engine choice at present, but fortunately it is one of the most advanced around. Toyota's Hybrid Synergy drive combines a 1.5 litre VVT-i engine with a powerful electric motor allowing the car to store energy when braking and uses no fuel when stationary. The transmission currently is only available as automatic CVT.
Trim levels start with the T3 at around £17000, then there is the T4 and the top spec T Spirit model which offers Intelligent Park Assist, full colour satellite navigation and Bluetooth connectivity.
