The original Beetle is one of the most iconic cars of all time, and started production back in 1938, it had only minor changes during its 65 years in production. A brand new Beetle was released by Volkswagen in 1998, based on the well regarded Golf chassis and is credited with starting the retro-futuristic craze seen now in models like the new MINI and Fiat 500. Although looking similar to the original, the new Beetle is a vast improvement, boasting a 4-Star Euro NCAP safety rating and modern, efficient engines and a conventional boot located in the rear. A refreshed design was released in 2006 with a refined look and new engine options.
The Beetle is available as a three-door hatchback or two-door cabriolet. The cabriolet features an electrically powered canvas roof on all but the base model which can be folded flat in just 13 seconds.
The Beetle range starts as just £10,965 for the base model 1.4 Luna, other petrol engine options are the 1.6 Luna, the 2.0 and 2.0 Auto and the turbo charged 1.8T. There is also a diesel engine option, the efficient 1.9TDI.
