The estate version of the new Golf was first introduced with the Golf MK3 in 1993. This newest version, built on the award winning Golf MK5 platform was introduced in 2006. The established quality, inherent to Volkswagen's is welcome and needed with tough competition from the likes of the Ford Focus Estate, Skoda Octavia Estate and Vauxhall Astra Estate. This Golf comes with practical 60:40 split rear seats that fold perfectly flat for the full load space providing ample room for moving large items. It is one of the best load carriers in its class.
As with the Golf hatchback, the estate version is one of the safest in its class, it achieved a 5-Star Euro NCAP rating and scored highly for adult, child and pedestrian safety.
Engine options are more limited than the hatchback Golf, with three engine options available; the 1.6 petrol and the 1.9TDI and 2.0TDI turbo diesel options. There are three trim levels offered, the base spec S, the Se and the Sportline. Also available on the Golf estate is the dual clutch DSG automatic gearbox.
