The new VW Golf Plus was released in 2005 providing extra space and versatility over the standard Golf. It fits into the small MPV category, competing with the likes of the Citroen Picasso, Ford C-Max, Renault Scenic and Toyota Corolla Verso. Being taller than the standard Golf, it manages to give passengers more legroom and allows the 60/40 split rear seats to move backwards and forwards to suit boot space to the occasion. There are 43 separate storage locations in the Golf Plus including a space large enough to fit most baby buggies under the rear boot floor.
There are several engine options and variations, starting with the base level petrol at 1.4 litres providing 80 PS. Then there are the 1.4 TSI 122 PS and the 1.4 TSI 160PS petrol options. Diesel engines options are the 1.9 TDI Bluemotion, offering excellent fuel economy and low emissions, then there is the 1.9 TDI 90 PS and 1.9 TDI 105 PS. Lastly there is the 2.0 TDI common rail diesel with 140 PS. Select models are also available with VW's DSG automatic gearbox.
