The Sharan is Volkswagen's largest people carrier and was first launched in 1995 after a partnership with Ford resulted in the Ford Galaxy and SEAT Alhambra utilising the same versatile chassis. The Sharan has received several facelifts in its lifecycles, the most recent coming in 2004 allowing it to continue to look good against new tough competition in the form of the Toyota Previa and Renault Espace. The Sharan is large and spacious, offering seven comfortable seats, the rear row can be removed completely for extra space and the middle row can be folded down for even more load carrying ability.
Engine options range from the 1.9 TDI, to the newer common rail diesel engines, the 2.0 TDI and Bluemotion 2.0 TDI DPF offering much improved economy and lower emissions. The petrol option is the 2.0 115PS. Available transmission options are the six-speed manual and there is a five-speed auto tiptronic available on select models.
Trim level range from the S, to the SE, then the environmentally friendly Bluemotion S and the top of the range Sport with 16 inch alloys and sports suspension as standard.
