The Volkswagen Touareg was first launched in 2003 after being jointly developed with the Porsche Cayenne. The platform was later developed for the Audi Q7. A new Touareg with refreshed look was launched in 2005. Completing with cars such as the Range Rover Sport, Toyota Landcrusier, BMW X5 and Mercedes M-Class, the Touareg is built as a serious off road machine and comes with an array of technology to help it conquer tricky conditions. Features include low and high range gearbox, short front and rear overhangs, four-wheel drive on all models, hill descent assist and lockable centre differential. This is not your normal VW, it’s a prestigious vehicle, with many options such as air suspension, touch screen satellite navigation, dusk and rain sensors as well as a useful two piece tailgate.
The Touareg continues Volkswagen's excellent safety record with a 5-Star Euro NCAP crash test rating thanks to rollover sensors, ESP, ABS, six airbags and Isofix child seat fittings.
Turbo diesel engine options range from the 2.5 TDI, 2.0 V6 TDI up to the mighty 5.0 V10 TDI with an astonishing 750 Nm of torque. The petrol engine offered is the 3.6 litre V6. Transmission comes as either the six-speed manual, six-speed auto and also the auto tiptronic.
Trim levels include the not lightly specced base level Touareg, the SE and the top of the range Touareg Altitude which can be selected with 19 inch alloy wheels.
