The new Volvo S80 is Volvo's high-end saloon and was first introduced in 1998 which sells in the competitive premium executive saloon market dominated by a host of German cars such as the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E Class. As with all Volvo's, safety was an important factor in the design which was rewarded with the highest ever crash test ratings in the world for 5 years. The new S80, released in 2006 continues the success of the first S80 with the highest rating in the IIHS crash test and remains one of the best cars in its class for safety. The new S80 has improvements in all areas over the outgoing vehicle, its interior is more luxurious and has won awards for its design. The top of the range Executive model even sports a fridge as standard as well as an enhanced exterior and ventilated massaging front seats.
A broad range of engines are available on the S80, including an all new V8, lightweight aluminium engine and the Volvo Flexifuel engine, enabling the car to run on renewable fuel sources. Turbo Diesel options are the 2.0D, 2.4D and powerful D5. Flexifuel engines come in two capacities, the 2.0F and the 2.5FT. Petrol options are the 2.0, 2.5T, 3.2 and the 4.4 litre V8 which has AWD and is one of the cleanest V8's on the market.
